Second: To provide a safety fastener or securing device for clasps of the kind designated, which is easily operated and still effectively prevents accidental opening of a hand bag or pocket book; and j Third: To provide a fastening or securing means which is effective and invisible when the clasp is in closed position.
I attain these objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, of which Figure 1 is an elevation showing the clasp in closed position with the securing means indicated in dotted lines within the clasp.
Fig. 2 isan elevation viewed from the op posite side showing the clasp in an open position.
Fig. 3 is a section on lines 3, 3, of Fig. 1, showin the fastening device in detail.
Simi ar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring now to the drawing, 10 represents the supporting frame of a hand bag or a pocket book. Attached to this frame by means ofa rivet 11 is a clasp 12. The clasp here illustrated is composed of a shank portion 13 and a head portion 14, having overhanging lips 15 and 16. Within the head ortion is a socket 17 for engaging the securmg stud 18. As best shown in Fig. 3 the stud 18 is fastened to the supporting frame by means of rivets 19. The stud itself is composed of a neck portion 20, and a head portion 21. with spring clamping fingers 22, which re siliently engage the clamping shoulders 23, and securely fastens or looks the clasp against accidental opening. a
The head portion is provided WVhile I have illustrated a specific type of fastenlng clasp, it is obvious to those skilled in the art that other securing devices might be substituted for the spring stud and socket herein shown, and that other types of clasp could be used if desired without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention.
Having now set forth the objects and na ture of my invention, and having shown and stud for securely fastening the clasp in closed position.
2. In a clasp fastener for hand bags and the like, a supporting frame comprising a pair of cooperating jaws, one of said jaws carrying a pivotally mounted clasp having depending sides and a. securing head, a socket in said head, the other of said jaws carrying a fastening stud, and resilient members on said stud for engaging said socket and thereby securing said clasp in closed po sltion.
3. In a clasp fastener for hand bags, a supporting frame comprising a pair of cooperating jaws, one of said jaws carryin a pivotally mounted clasp having a rounc ed head and a socket within said head, the other of said jaws carrying a stud, spring fingers on said stud engaging said socket and receiving said clasp in closed position.
