JOSEPTEI E. NAIL AND THEOPHILUS P. HENRY, OF EDEN, TEXAS.
PLOW.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented (lot. 18, 1921.
Application filed December 14, 1920. Serial No. 430,649.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JosnrH E. NAIL and THEOPHILUS P. HENRY, citizens of the United States, residing at Eden, in the county of Concho and State of Texas, have invented rertain new and useful Improvements in Plows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to plow attachments and more particularly to a middle burster designed for attachable and detachable connection to the plow beam of a wheel plow.
One of the objects of the invention is the construction of an attachment of the above type which may be easily and readily secured to the plow beam of various types of wheel plows when it is desired to convert the same into a burster plow.
Another and very important object of the invention is the construction of an attachment of the above type which will be simple in construction, easily assembled, consists of comparatively few parts and therefore inexpensive to manufacture, and one capable of universal and extensive use in connection with various types of disk and reversible plows well known in the art.
Vith these objects in view and others which will be manifest and suggested as the nature and purpose of our invention are revealed in the following specification and drawing wherein I have shown a practical, yet preferred embodiment thereof,
Figure 1 is a side elevation of the attachment in position.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a vertical section of the standard.
Fig. 4 is a perspective showing the attachment when assembled on a wheel plow.
Referring now in particular to the part wherein we have shown our improved and novel attachment, 1 designates a portion of a front axle and 2 a bearing member in which the same operates, and 4 a rearwardly directed curved plow beam preferably of I-beam formation of the well known type used in connection with single disk plows.
The attachment primarily consists of a channel beam 5 offset as at 6, and bolted at its forward portion 7 to the front 8 of the plow beam 4 secured and retained by suitable fastening elements 9, 10. A vertical standard 11 provided with an upper bifurcated portion 12 straddles the said beam 5 near its rear end and is secured thereto by fastening members 13 passing through the bifurcated standards and the beam, additional fastening elements 14: above and below the beam being provided. Alined bolt holes 15 in the said standards permit the same to be vertically adjusted with respect to the beam 5 to regulate the depth of the plow, it being of course understood that the standard is adapted to carry a plow of the double mold board type for this kind of cultivation, shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 of the drawing.
An angularly extending brace 16 is connected to the standard 13 as at 17 near its lower portion, the said brace being provided with bolt holes 18 for varying the angular inclination of the standard as desired. The brace is suitably connected near its upper portion by U-shaped clevis or clip member 19 which securely fastens the same to the plow i as clearly shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawing.
In the above construction, it will be readily apparent that the beam 5 and its bifurcated standard may be readily attached to various types of disk wheel plows and permits the same to be used as middle burst ers. The standard may be readily vertically adjusted to meet the desired needs of cultivation desired, and the brace-secured to the plow beam constitutes a ready structure capable of withstanding rough usage to which attachments of this type are subjected.
In the accompanying drawings, we have illustrated our invention embodied in one form by way of example, and which in practice has been found to be highly satisfactory in obtaining the desired results. It will be obvious however, that other embodiments may be adopted, and that various changes in the details of construction may be resorted to by those skilled in theart without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. It is furthermore understood that the invention is not necessarily limited or restricted to the precise elements shown except in so far as such limitations are specified in the subject matter being claimed.
What we claim is 1. In a wheel plow attachment of the class described comprising a longitudinally extending, offset channel beam, a vertically adjustable, bifurcated pivotally supported standard carried thereby, said beam being located in the bifurcation and an angularly extending, adjustable brace adapted to be secured to the frame of the wheel plow and to the standard.
2111 a wheel plow attachment of the class described comprising a longitudinally extending, channel beam, ofiset and adapted to be connected to the forward frame of the wheel plow, a vertically adjustable, bifurcated, standard pivotally supported at the 10 rear terminal of said offset beam, said beam being located in the bifurcation, an angu-V U-shaped clip adapted for securing the other a terminal of said brace to the wheel plow frame.
In testimony whereof, we afiix our signatures hereto. d i
