UNITED STATES MANOOG KAZANJ'IAN, 0F CHARLESTOWN, MASSACHUSETTS.
EASEL.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MANooG KAZANJIAN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Charlestown, county of Suffolk, State of Massachusetts, have invented an Improvenient in Easels, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawing, is a specification, like characters on the drawing representing like parts.
This invention relates to easels such as are made from a blank of sheet material that is folded to give the desired easel formation.
The object of the invention is to provide an improved easel of this character in which f the rest is firmly locked in position and which has other advantagesall as willV be more fully hereinafter set forth. ,Y
In orderto give an understanding of vthe invention I have illustrated in the drawings Ya selected embodiment thereof which will now be described after which the novel features will be pointed out in the appended claims.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an easel embodying my invention.
If ig. 2 is a view showing the blank from which the easel is made.
Fig. 3 is a side view of the easel.
Fig. 4 is a sectionon the line 4-4, Fig. 5.
Fig. 5 is a section on the line.5-5, Fig. 3.
My improved easel comprises the body portion 1, one or more supportingV wings 2 at the side of the body portion and the rest 3 on which the article to be exhibited is supported.
The easel is inade from a blank of sheet material such as shown in Fig. 2 and this blank is scored at the upper portion alongv the two parallel lines 4. and at the lower portion along the two parallel lines 5, the lines 4 and 5 being in line with each other. The portion of the blank between'the scoring 5 and the scoring 4 is slit and the portion which is thus inclosed in the slit is used to form the rest 3 of the easel. The blank is provided with two slits 6 which are in line with each other and which extend youtwardly from the score lines 5, -with the inclined slits 7 extending upwardly from the ends of the slits 6, and with the slit 8 con- V necting the upper ends of the slits 7.
The blank'is also provided with the two slots 9 extending downwardly from the slits 6 and with the slotsY 10 extending down-V Specication of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 20, 1921.
Application filed May 24, 1921. Serial No. 472,097.
wardly from the slit 8. The portion 11 within the slits 6, 7, l8 is scored along the line 12 and the blank is also scored along the line 13 between the slits 6.
The material between the score lines 4 and the score lines 5 constitutes the body 1 of the easel and the material outside of the score lines constitute the wings 2.
In forming the easel from the blank, which is made as above described, said blank is first folded` along the lines 4, 5 so as to bring the wings 2 parallel to each other and at right angles to the body 1. The portion 11 is then folded along the score line 12 until the upper part thereof is' perpendicular to the lower part and it is also` folded about the score line 13 until the part between the score lines 12 and 13 lies flatlyl against the supporting edges 14 of the wings formed bythe slits 6. The portion 15 of the part 11 is interlocked with thewings by entering the wings in the slots 10 and by entering the portion 15 adjacent the slots 1() into the slots 9. That part of the section 11 between the score lines 12 and 13 forms the rest 3 of the easel. This rest is firmly'held yin place by the'manner in which the section sheet material folded along parallel lines to form a central body and a supporting wing at each side of the body, a portion being cut from the body andeach wing, said portion being divided tranversely one part thereof constituting a rest which .is folded against the edges of the cuts made in the wings, said portion projecting beyond each wing, and the other part thereof being bent downwardly andjhaving slots to receive the wings.
2. An easel made from a single piece of sheet` material folded to form a central body and a supporting lwing at the side of the body, a portion being cut from the body and wing, which portion is divided transversely, one part thereof constituting a rest which is folded against the edge of the cut made ,in the wing, said portion projecting beyond the wing, and the other part thereof being bent downwardly and having a slot to receive the wing.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification.v
