UNITED STATES PATENToFFlcE.
WOJCIEGH SZOSTEK, 0F THREE RIVERS, MASSACHUSETTS.
COLLAPSIBLE CHAIR.
Application med June is, 1921. serian No. 478,514.
To all/whom it may concern:
Be it known that I WoJoIEoH SzosTnK, a citizen of Poland, residing at Three Rivers, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts have invented certain new and useful mprovements in Collapsible Chairs, of which the following is a specilication.
The main object of this invention is the provision of a collapsible chair which may e quickly and compactly folded to occupy little space or to provide a convenient bundle so that the same may be readily carried about.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which like-named characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawings.
Referring briefly to the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevational view of m chair.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational View, partly fin Section on the une 2--2 of Fig. 1. t
Fig. 3 is an underside plan view of the chair collapsed.
Fig. 4 is a similar view of the chair extended.
Referring now in detail to the drawings, the numeral 1 represents the seat of the chair having depending strips 2 at the rear edge and near the front edge. Spindles 3 are pivotally mounted on opposite sides of the chair in said strips, and legs 4 are rigid with said spindles at the four corners of the seat. The legs on one side of the chair are spaced apart at a lesser distance than those on the other, so that when the legs are folded vunder the seat, the legs on one sige will not obstruct those on the other s1 e.
The upper ends of the legs 4 are provided with quadrantial sectors 5 engaging slidable racks 6 on the ends of slide bars 7. A hand lever 8 is. pivotally mounted on the underside of the seat 1, at the rear, on a pin 9. Spaced apart slots 10 are provided in said lever, and are engaged by pins 11 in the bars 7. The back of the chair 12 is hingedly attachedat 13 to the seat. In operation, it is apparent that turning the lever 8 in one direction causes the legs to be folded under the seat, and reverse turning causes the same to be extended.
I claim:
A collapsible chair comprising a seat, elements depending from opposite edges of said seat, spindles pivotally mounted in said elements, legs rigidly secured to said spindles, toothed sectors on the upper ends of said legs, rack bars in engagement with said sectors and slidably mounted on the underside of said seat, a lever pivotally mounted on the underside of said seat and having spaced apart slots therein, and pins on said bars lying in engagement with said slots.
In witness whereof I affix my signature.
WOJCIECH SZOSTEK.
