. REMOVABLE .REFUSE-GATCHER.
Specification of LettersPatent. P t t s t 3 21 App1ication filed March 19.1919. Serial No. 283,600.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM a citizen ofthe United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cool; and State of Illinois. have invented acertain new and useful Improvement in Removable Refuse- Catchers of which the following is a full, clear, concise, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forniing a part of this specification.
The invention relates to refuse catchers and primarily to that type of these devices which is designed to be removably arranged in a sink or other basin in which such material is liable to accumulate and which for sanitary and other reasons it is desirable to remove.
It is an object of the invention to produce a device of this character which will permit the water to drain from the sink or basin and which will prevent the passage of such matter as would ordinarily clog the waste pipe, and further to provide the device with a depressed or cup shaped portion having a handle whereby the device may be lifted out of its seat so that the material deposited therein may be removed from the basin and from the device without soiling the hands and without the aid of any other instrumentality.
The invention has as an added object the provision of a device of this character which is applicable for use in connection with cleansing machines such as shown and described in the patent issued to me April 30, 1907, No. 851336.
The invention will be described in this connection. although it is evident that its use is not limited thereto. It is a further object to produce a device of this character which is simple in construction and effective in operation.
The invention will be explained in detail and more readily understood when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a view showing the device ap plied to an ordinary sink;
Fig. 2 is a view showing its application in connection with a cleansing machine; 7
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the device shown in Fig. 2;
Fig. 4: is a section taken on line 1 of Fig. 3; and I Fig. 5 shows a modified form of construction.
H. DUNN,
In the particular construction of the device as illustrated in the drawings, an annular member generally designated 1 is 'con-.
templated. The member has a laterally extending annular member 2 and a down wa-rdly extending flange 3, this latter por tion being; of a dimension sufiicient to produce the depressed or cupped portiond, into which any waste or foreign matter may be deposited and retained. A perforated plate 5 is provided, to permit the water to be drained therefrom and to retain the refuse therein. This plate 5 may be fastened to the member 1 in any suitable manner as by the screws 5. The construction thus far explained produces an arrangement which may be seated in the orifice 6 usually provided in inks, tubs or basins.
The explanation of the structure hereinafter to be described is particularly applicable for use in connection with a cleansing machine which in a general manner employs the use of a fluid container 12 and a recip- A bridge piece 7 is provided above the annular member and extends across'the same When the device" 7 and produces a handle whereby the device may be lifted out of the orifice in which it is seated to remove any waste which is lodged therein. suitable distance abovethe member 2 so as not to interfere with the'waste material being deposited in the cupped portion 4 and to permit of its being readily emptied.
This bridge piece 7 is provided withthe' seat 8 having the stud 16 extending therefrom, this latter portion forming a pivot This bridge piece f is elevated a for the circulator 13 which is removably v mounted thereon.
From the foregoing it is evident that an arrangement is produced which is applicable for use 111 the ordinary sink or -bas1n,'or with a cleansing machine, which can read ly be applied or removed from either when this is desired.
Having shown and described the invention, it is evident that changes and modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the appended claims.
lVhat I claim and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a ring adapted to be inserted into an orilice, said ring being closed by a perforated member, said ring and perforated member producing a receptacle into which material may be lodged, a member extending from said ring and said last mentioned member having means wherein another member may be held in pivotal relation thereto. 7
2. In a device of the class described. the combination of a member having a portion adapted to be inserted into an orifice and having a pertoratet depression, a member extending from. the first mentioned member, said member having a portion for holding another member in pivotal relation thereto and a seat arranged to support the pivoted member in vertical, position relatively to said portion.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination of an annular member adapted to be inserted and removed from an aperture, said member having a depression, said depression having one wall thereof provided with perforations, a bridge piece arranged so as to permit the passage of material be low it into the depression and having means whereb another element may be held in pivotal relationv thereto, said bridge piece forming a handle whereby said member may be inserted and removed from the orifice.
41:. In a device of the class described, the combination of an annular member, a depression provided therein, one wall of the depression beingperforated, a bridge piece extending across the depression, said bridge piece having a seat and a stud projecting theretrom whereby another member may be held in pivotal. relation thereto.
In witness whereof, I hereunto subscribe.
my name this 3rd day of March, A. D. 1919.
