Description
W. GOBURN. LE E No. 1,388. Patented Oct. 81, 1839.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WM. COBURN, OE LANCASTER COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO T. J. PATTERSON, OF MOUNT JOY, PENNSYLVANIA.
MACHINE FOR ROLLING LEATHER.
Specification of Letters Patent No. 1,388, dated October 31, 1839.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILLIAM CoBURN, formerly of the State of Maine, and now of the county of Lancaster and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Machines for Leather; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof.
In my machine there is a vertical sweep A, which may be made of wood, say from ten to fifteen feet long, said sweep being fixed at the top to the middle of a horizontal beam B, of wood, by means of an iron pivot or a swivel C. Around the neck of the swivel is a metal collar D, with a hole sufliciently Rolling purpose of changing the leather while the other end remains in its place. On the lower end of the sweep A, is aflixed a roller G, made of hard wood, or of metal, which is adapted to, and works in, a concave table H, the concavity of which is circular, being the segment of a hollow sphere, suited to the length of the sweep. Any required degree of pressure may be given to the roller by adding weight to the beam above mentioned.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The constructing a table having a con cavity on its face, which concavity is the segment of a hollow sphere, adapted to the vertical sweep and roller, as herein described, by means of which the roller may be passed over the leather, placed thereon in all directions, without the necessity of shifting the place of said leather.
WM. COBURN.
