Description

A. B. SMITH.
SUPPORTER.
APPLICATION FILED APR.13. 1911.
Patented Aug. 23, 1921,
UNITED STATES ANNA. B. SMITH, OF EBB, FLORIDA.
SUPPORTER.
Specification of Iletters Patent. Patent-(3d Aug. 23, 1921.
Application filed April 13, 1917. Serial No. 161,778.
To all w ham it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANNA B. SMITH, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Ebb, in the county of Madison and State of Florida, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Supporters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to garment supporters and the invention has for its pri mary object to provide an improved hosiery and sanitary shield supporter designed for use by women and adapted to properly support their hosiery and also to sufficiently support the usual catamenial shield.
Another and equally important object of the invention is to provide a supporting device of the character mentioned wherein the hosiery and shield supporting means can out more in detail in the description to follow, which, for a clear understanding of the invention, should be considered in connection with the accompanying drawings forming parts thereof and wherein is dlsclosed for the purpose of illustration, a convenient and satisfactory embodiment of the invention.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective of the improved supporter; and
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary section through the supporter belt showing the mode of connecting the various supportlng devices thereto.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein like reference characters designate corresponding parts throughout the several views thereof, there is provided a body encircling belt 1 formed of a plurality of sections of fabric which sections are connected by means of elastic strips 2, the free extremities of which are passed through buckles 3 as arranged upon the adjacent ends of the opposite section of the belt.
Suspenders comprising straps f1 are secured to the belt 1 at opposlte points thereon through the medium of the usual hook and eye connections 5, the said straps be ing crossed and secured to each other as at 6 for an obvious purpose. To permit adjusting of the suspenders, pivotal clasps or other suitable devices 7 are arranged upon the free extremities thereof and are adapted to secure the adjusted looped ends thereof in fixed position as shown in the Fig. 1.
Rose supporters designated 8 are engaged with the opposite sides of the belt 1 by means of hooks and eyes, and, as will be understood, will serve as means for supporting the hosiery of the wearer in proper position, such stress as applied to the supporters 8 being directed on to the belt 1 and the suspenders 4:.
At opposite points preferably upon the forward and rear portions of the belt 1, suitable eyelets are arranged and are adapted to be engaged by a hook carried upon the opposite extremities of the looped elastic strips 9. These forward and rearwardly disposed elastic loops 9 serve as means for eiiiciently supporting the usual catamenial shield 10 in proper position and by reason of their inherent resiliency will cause the said shield to automatically adjust itself. By detachably engaging the ends of the elastic loops 9' with the portions of the belt 1, it is evident that the same may be readily removed therefrom to allow the arranging of the shields thereupon. Further, by reason of the detachable engagement, the shields may be equally as well removed.
, From the foregoing, it'will be appreciated by workers in the art, that I have provided an eficient supporter, which, will efiiciently serve for the purpose to which it is designed. If desired, the suspenders 4 and supporters 8 may be removed fromthe belt 1 thereby, allowing the same to be used as a catamenial, shield supporting means. Also,
it is apparent, that if desired, the elastic stituted in lieu thereof, such as conditions or preference may dictate.
Manitestly the construction shown is capable of considerable modification and such modification as is Within the scope of my claim I consider Within the spirit of my invention.
1 claim:
A supporter of the character described, comprising a harness for suspension from the shoulders and to embrace the Waist of ANNA B. SMITH.
