Referring to the drawing Vin detail, the device forming the subject matter of this invention includes opposed jaw sections 5 and 6 respectively, the jaw section 5 being provided with the flanges 7 adapted to einbrace the flanges 8 of the opposed jaw section 6. j
The jaw sections, and more particularly the flanges thereof are provided with openings indicated at 9, which openings, when the jaws are in assembled relation register to accommodate theL bolt 10 providing the pivot for the jaws, toL permit the jaws to I l.Specification of LettersA Patent. rock withV relation to each other, to accomplish the gripping result. s
Formed in each of the jaw sections is a cut. out portion indicated at 11, the ends thereof being curved as at 12 to provide camming surfaces, for purposes to be hereinafter more fully y described.
The supporting member, forming a part s of the clamp comprises the head 18 provided with an elongated opening 14 extending longitudinally of the head, to permit ofmovement ofl the supporting :memberwith relation to the jaw sections, the movement of the supporting memberbeing limited by the length of the cut out portion 1l.k
Curved surfaces 15 are formed on the head 13, while at the opposite end thereof, the curved surfaces 16 are provided, ythe curved surfaces 15 coperating with the curved surfaces formed at the upper ends of the jawsections for rocking the jaw sections to move the clamping ends thereof toward each other, that is when the device is lifting, and the supporting member is moving in one direction. Vhen the supporting member is` moved in the opposite direction, the curved portions 16 ofthe head 13, contact with. the curved surfaces 12, disposed adjacent to the lower ends of the jaw sections, to cause the jaw sections to move away from each other, or moved tol an open position.
Y LIn order that the jaw sections will be automatically locked in their open positions, the spring latch member indicated at 17 is provided, one end of which is secured to one of the sections as by means of the screws 18, the opposite endthereof extending at right angles to position itself in the Aopening 19,y
