G. ARMSTRONG, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN WAGON-SEATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,693, dated May 6, 1873; application tiled September 10, 1872.
To all whom t may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN W. PLATTEN- BURG, of Tiffin, in the county of Seneca and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wagon` Seats 5 and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the letters of reference marked thereon making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangementV of a wagonseat, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which- Figure l is a side view, and Fig. 2 a front view pa-rtly in section of my invention.
A represents an ordinary wagon-seat, supported at each end by spiral springs B B, at-
tached to and resting upon a bar, C. This bar is, on its under side, provided with metal bars a a, the outer ends of which are bent, as shown in Fig. 2, to rest upon the upper edge of the side of the wagon-box. On the under side, in the center of each bar C, is secured a metal bar,D, which extends inward and upward to the center of the seat A, and the inner ends of said bars pass between two downward-projecting ears, b b. In these ears three friction-rollers, d d, have their bearings. and the bars D D pass between said rollers in the manner shown in Fig. 2, the middle roller being between said bars, and one on top and one below them. The bars are confined by said `rollers so snugly that when one end of the seat is pressed down the effect is to draw the other down from the action of the middle roller, and thereby equalize the weight upon the seat, no matter where the person sits.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is`
The combination of the seat A with down ward-projecting ears b b and friction-rollers d d, springs B B, blocks O O, bars a @and the sliding metal 'straps D D moving over the rollers d d, and having hooked ends, all substantially asset forth.
