TRUSS.
Specification of Letters Patent,
rammen Aug. e, mai.
Application filed October 9, 1920. Serial No. 415,940.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, NICK MAGGIO, a subject of the King of Italy, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State -of` New York, have invented certain new and useful,
' of the abdomen and secured tothe body by a waist belt and leg straps carried thereby.
A further ob] ect of the invention is to provide a truss wherein the fabric body engaging section carriesV a removable elastic element inclosing the upper portion of the abdomen to constitute a supporting brace for that part of the body.
A still further object of the invention includes the provision of certain materials of which the truss is constructed so that the body of the wearer is entirely free from engagement by any metallic parts of the truss, thus insuring` against abrasions during wear.
With the above and other objects in view that will appear as the nature of the invention in better understood, the same consists in the novel construction and association of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and then claimed.
In the drawings forming a party of this application and to which reference is had by like characters designating corresponding parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a front perspective view of a truss constructed in accordance with the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a rear perspective view of the truss.
Fig. 8 is a vertical cross-sectional View taken on the line III-III of Fig. 1 showing the flexible body engaging shield carried by the upper end of the truss.
Fig. 4 is a detailed sectional View taken on the line IV-lV of Fig. 2 showing the metallic shell inclosed by the pad, and
Fig. 5 is a detailed sectional view showing the snap fastener connection between the body of the truss and the elastic band.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawings there is illustrated a truss embodying an abdomen engaginglportion 1, the outer face of which is formed of a soft and smooth material as silk, as shown in Fig. 1, while the inner abdomen engaging face thereofis formed of velvet or like material as shown in Fig. 2. rFhe forward portion of the truss is of the usual design having depending front sectionsV 2 while the edges of the front part of the truss carry rear belt sections 3 vand 4, the inner faces of which are of velvet while the outer faces'are formed of leather, shown respectively in Figs. 1 and 2.
'The overlapping ends of the belt sections 3 and 4 are adj ustably connected by the buckle 5 as shown in Fig. 2.
One of the pads associated with the body 1 of the truss is shown in Fig. 4, the same embodying a metallic shell 6 of proper design inclosed by the outer layer of silk and the inner layer of velvet with the two plies of material surrounding the shell secured as by stitching 7.
y To assist the'waist belt sections 3 and 4 in properly retaining the truss upon the body of the wearer, a pair of crotch straps 8 and 9 are secured to the depending front. portions 2 and are adapted for passage between the legs as shown in Fig. l with the free ends thereof adjustably connected to the buckles 10 carried by the tabs 11 projecting from the body of the truss. The leg straps 8 and 9 Vwhere the same contact the inner sides of the legs are formed of velvet with the tops of the straps formed of leather for engagement with 'said buckles.
An elastic abdomen supporter 12 has the lower edge thereof provided'with male members 13 of snap fasteners,l shown more clearly in Fig. 5, that are adapted for engagement in sockets 14 carried by the leather strap 15 secured to the upper edge of the truss 1, openings being provided in the truss to accommodate the passage of the snap fastener' elements 13. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the lower edge of the elastic band or shield 12 is curved coincident to the upper edge of the bodyl of the truss while the upper edge of aid band is preferably cut upon ak straight In positioning the truss upon the body, the desired tension at the waist line is controlled by the buckle connection 5 between the straps 3 and 4. In order to prevent rising of the truss and to properly position the same with the pads engaging the affected part-s of the the body, the leg straps 8 and 9 after being ypassed between the legs have the free ends thereof attached to the buckles 10 and by placing the desired tension on said straps, a downward pull of the body of the truss against the vWaist band sections is accomplished, thereby properly holding the truss supported on the body.` The elastic band 12 extending above thetruss'supports that part of the abdomen usually' exposed, vand While limiting movements thereof Will operate'.V to support theab'domen and 'assist' the Atrussin performing its usual `functions. For sani.-
tary purposes, as in cleaning the 'fabric elements ofthe truss it is possible to completely f detach the elastic band 12 therefrombyk disconnecting the male andV female members of v the snap astcnersand it is also to beunder stood that elastic bands of dii'erent designs may be provided for detachable engagement With thevtruss.
i' VWhile there is herein shown andi described' Y the 'preferred embodiment of ytheinyentionn it is to beunderstood that minor changes are contemplated as Willvfall'withintl'ie scope of thev invention as 'hereinafter claimed;
What'is claimed. as new is: Y f Y. l; In combinationYWi-th a truss,f a detach- `able'elastic abdomen .supporting band se'` g 2.l A truss oi' the type described `:compris-v ing a body part, Waist belt sections carried fioV therebyfa beltY section secured to thevupper f edge of the b'ody-ofthetruss upon the outer face thereof, members ofseparable :fastenersV carriedby said belt'section, ythe upperedge of the body of thetr'uss having openings registering with'V said separable :fastener members,an elastic abdomen supporting l band associated Withsaidftrussbody and oth-ermembers of saidseparablefasteners secured to the lower edgeofsaid elasticband Y engaging `with said first named fastener members for l" attaching the elasticr'band YtoV "the body. ofthe trussjy f f nien lintesi@ a A 45'. -V In testimony whereofy lV-aiiiX my signature."
