Be it known that I, AUGUST C. Knormima citizen of the United States, and a resident of Asbury Park, in the county of Monmouth and State of New Jerse have invented a new and Improved rench, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in wrenches, an object of the invention being to provide a gear drive socket wrench which can be conveniently used for remov' or replacing nuts which are awkward to reach and operate with wrenches such as ordinarily made.
A further object is to wrench of the character stated, which can be operated to lock the socket against turning movement to permit the full leverage of the wrench to be employed for loosening a nut and then enable the socket to be turned by the gear driven mechanism to complete the removal of the nut.
further object is to provide a wrench of the character stated which can be manufactured and sold at a reasonably low price provide a socket and which will most efficiently erform the th functions for which it is inten ed.
With these and other objects in view the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully hereinafter descri and pointed out in the claims.

the respective ends of the shaft 6 and the pinion 8 meshes with a beveled pinion 10 onthe inner end ofthe drive shaft 4, the latter having an annular enlargement 11 thereon bearlng against the inner end of the sleeve 3, as clearly shown in Fig. 1.

An operating rod 20 projects laterally through e angle 2 and has an operating button 21 on its outer end. This rod 20 is connected by a link 22 with the locking block 18, said link being normally disposed at an angle, as shown In Fig. 3, so that when the rod 20 is drawn outwardly, a longitudinal move will be imparted to the locking block into the recess 17 of pinion or gear 14 and lock the pinion against turning movement.

A wrench of the character described, comprising a tubular casing, a shaft supported by the casing at one, end thereof, a nut engaging socket on the shaft, a pinion on the inner end ofosaid shaft having an angular socket therein, an angular locking block movable into and out o engagement comprising without departing from the with said socket and adapted when in engagement with the socket to lock the pinion against turning movement, means for operating the locking block, and means for imparting turning movement to the pinion.
