THOMAS C. HUTCHESON, OF NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR, TO UNITED DRUG COMPANY, OF BOSTON, MASSACH'USETTS, A CORPORATION.
ma DEVICE.
I 0 all whomit may concern: Be it known that I, THOMAS C. HUTCHESON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newton, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new'and useful Improvements in Display Devices, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description. This invention relates to display devices and with respect to certain more specific features thereof to suction-held trays adapted to be affixed to theunder side of a showcase glass or adjacent a window or transparent pane.
The invention has for one of its objects to provide a supporting 'frame with vacuum cups for quick and convenient attachment to Other objects will be in part obvious and in part pointed out particularly hereinafter. The invention accordingly consists in the various features of construction, combinations of elements and arrangements of parts which will be exemplified by the construction hereinafter set forth and the scope of the a plication of which will be indicated in t e following claims.
In the drawings wherein is shown one of various possible embodiments of the invention:
Figure 1 is a view in perspective of a showcase illustrating the use of the present invention.
Fig. 2 is a view in plan ofthe supporting frame with its vacuum cups.
Fig. 3 is a view in front elevation of Fig. 2.
Referring now more particularly to the drawings wherein similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, there is indicated at 1 a showcase having front and side glass panels 2 and a glass top The supporting frame4 com Specification of .llctters Patent. Patent d J l 12 Application filed October 28, 1920. Serial No. 420,109.
I tray 15'.
prises a longitudinal metal strip 5 and two cross strips 6 and 7 At either end of the longitudinal strip 5 there is a bend upwardly and outwardly as indicated at 8 providing the outwardly extending flanges 9 to which are attached vacuum cups 10 of rubber or other suitable material. The cross strips 6 and 7 are riveted as indicated at 11 to the strip 5 but the riveted connections are of such a character that the strips may have a pivotal movement on the rivets. The cross strips 6 and 7 have their forward ends upturned as indicated at 12 and their rearward ends downturned as indicated at 13. When the suction cups 10 are attached to the under side of the transparent pane or top 3 of the show case, as appears in Fig. 1 of the draw-. ings, the metal frame 4, consisting of the longitudinal strip 5 and the cross strips 6 and 7,
forms with the pane of the show-case a skeleton casing adapted to permit of the introduction and withdrawal of the display Inasmuch as the stops 12 on the cross strips 6 and 7 govern the display position of the tray, if it is desired to vary the relation of the tray to its supporting frame in order to obtain a better distribution of the weight on the vacuum cups the strips 6 and"? may be moved about their rivets 11 to foreshorten the distance between the centerline of the vacuum cups and the stops 12.
The aforesaid construction provides an extremely simple and inexpensive display tray holder and one which permits the tray to be slidably introduced and withdrawn quickly and conveniently and without disturbmgthe vacuum connection between the frame and the show-case.
As many changes could be made in the above'construction and as many apparently widely different embodiments of the invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof. it is intended that all matter set forth in the foregoing description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
What I claim is:
1. In a display device of the nature described, .in combination, a frame having vacuum cups at opposite ends whereby it may be attached to a plane surface and having provision for forming with said plane surface a drawer-way to slidably receive a display tray.
2, In a display device the combination of a longitudinal member having a vacuum cup at each end whereby the member may be attached to the under side of a window to form with said window a drawer-way, a tray adapted to be slidably introduced to and withdrawn from said, drawer-way, and means for limiting the introductory movementof the tray. 1
3. In a display device the combination of a longitudinal member having a vacuum cup at each end whereby the member may be attached to the under side of a window to form with said window a drawer-way, a tray adapted to be slidably introduced to and withdrawn from said drawer-way, and adjustable means for variably limiting the introductory movement of the tray.
4. In a display device, a supporting frame comprising a base, front and side walls and an open rear, said frame being provided with a device on each end for attachment to a plane surface in such a manner as to hold the base of the frame in suitably spaced relation with the plane surface to receive a tray containing articles to be displayed. I
' 5. In a display device, in combination, a
' longitudinal strip extending upwardly and outwardly for a' comparatively short dislongitudinal strip extending upwardly andoutwardlyat each end for a short distance, a
pair of transversestrips spaced apart longitudinally and having upturned forward ends to form with the upturned longitudinal strip a skeleton casing with open rear side, and a vacuum cup at each outturned end of the longitudinal strilpl.
