Description

M. A. HUNT.
Bed-Bottoms.
Patented Aprii 29, 1873.
UNITED STATES PATENT DFFICE.
MARCUS A. HUNT, OF CINCINNATI, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,252, dated April 29, 1873 application filed April 1, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARCUS A. HUNT, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful ImprovementsinBed-Bottoms, of which the following is a specification:
My invention relates to the manner of holding the slats of a bed-bottom in position.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of a slat attached to a spring by the holder embodied in my invention; and Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder.
A represents the cross-bar of the frame; C, the spring; and B, the slat. D is the holder, which may be made out of any soft sheet metal. A portion of the metal is first out out, as shown at c, Fig. 2; then a lip, a, is made on one side by any of the well-known means. A mortise is cut in the slat just sufliciently large to allow the holder to enterloosely, when a similar lip, a, is turned on the opposite side. The part c, which is removed, should be about the width of the thickness of the wire of the spring, as it is intended to form a hook to engage with the spring. The
double lips so strengthen the holder that very light metal may be used, and, if desired, two may be used to each spring, but this is unnecessary.
The advantages of this slat-holder are its simplicity, cheapness, and the enabling of the slat to be reversed without any adjustment ot the holder otherwise than to allow it to drop through until its reverse lip rests on the slat; but the most important advantage is that it cannot be lost, and thereby great annoyance and inconvenience are avoided.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The holder. D having lips a a, in combina tion with, and arrangedin the mortise of, a slat of a bed-bottom, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 27th day of March, 1873..
MARCUS A. HUNT.
