IMPROVEMENT IN BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 125,490, dated April 9, 1872.
I, DAVID A. SCOTT, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, ()hio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bed-Bottoms, ofwhich the following is a specification:
Nature and Objects of the Invention.
My invention relates to the arrangement in the slat of a bed-bottom of a removable button-hook slat-holder, which, while it retains the slat securely in place when in use, is easily removed to allow the slat to be reversed, when it may be again placed as before.
7 Description of the Accompanying Drawing.
General Description.
I make a mortise in the slat the size of the holder, as shown at b, Fig. 4. The holder is made with a head resembling a button that rests against the slat. The shank must be suf I ficiently long to allow the hook to extend below the slat far enough for the metallic spring to pass between it and the wood, as shown at Figs. 2 and 3.
The springs being fastened to the frame, one end of the slat is placed in position against its spring; then, by a downward pressure, the
spring at the other end is forced into position,
and there held by the holder.
Theseholders are very convenient for ship-- ping, and are easily removed and replaced when it is desired to reverse the slats. They may be used in connection with many kinds of springs, but are particularly well adapted for use with a helicoidal spring, such as is shown in my patent No. 74,153.
Claim.
I claimo In combination with the slat of a bed-bottom mortised to receive it, the button-hook slat-holder a, substantially as shown and described.
