Description

S. A. E. LARSEN. BOLT WITH mvmsn'mss. AFPLICATION'FILED JUNE.3, 1920.
..-Patented June 21; 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SOFUS ANDREW EMIL LARSEN, OF COPENHAGEN, DENMARK.
BOLT WITH Drvnmn oAsE.
Application filed June 3,
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, SoFUs ANDREW EMIL LARSEN, subject of the Kingdom of Denmark, residing at Vesterbrogade No; 126, Copenhagen, Denmark, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bolts with Divided Cases, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to a bolt with divided case for doors and the like, and consists mainly therein, that the cylindrical bolt case is divided longitudinally in two or more parts, by which it is easier and cheaper to manufacture, and further thereby, that a part of the case is constructed in such a manner, that it may easily be removed and besides is easy to separate and repair. I will describe my invention by the aid of the accompanying drawings in which:
Figure l is a horizontal longitudinal section of the invention complete.
Fig. 2 shows the case seen from the end.
Fig. 3 the one half part of the cylindrical case.
Fig. ashows the bottom plate of the case.
Figs. 5 and 6 show the two parts of the case separated.
Figs. 7 and 8 show a modified detail.
Upon the plate 1, which serves for fastening the case, is fixed a semi-cylinder 2, which upon the end opposite to the plate carries a bottom plate 4. In the case is arranged a bolt 5, which is moved by a hub 6, the latter being turned by a handle. The case consists, besides the rigid semi-cylinder 2, of a loose semi-cylindrical lid 3, these two parts together forming the cylindrical case, which contains the bolt and associated parts. The two semi-cylinders 2 and 3 have holes 15, which form bearings for the hub 6.
The rigid semi-cylinder 2 is fastened to the plate 1 by means of projections 7,
' which are introduced into holes 8 and riveted, and the substantially-circular back or bottom plate 4 is fixed to the semi-cylinder 2 by means of projections 9,.which are introduced into holes 10 and riveted, the holes 10 occupying a common plane, and the plate 4 being fitted within the case in the said plane, as shown. The loose lid 3 has a projection 11, which is introduced into a hole 12 in the plate 1, and the bottom plate 4 has an angular lug 13, in which is arranged a screw-threaded hole to receive a Specification of Letters Patent.
1920. Serial No. 386,228.
screw, which goes through a hole 14 in the lid 3 and thereby keeps the lid fast to the bottom plate 4. By removing this screw the Patented June 21, 1921.
lid 8 may be removed, and the bolt and its adjuncts then taken out. Thefastening may also be arranged as shown in Figs. 7 and 8. The bottom plate is here slit, so that a part of it forms a spring lug 16, the upper end of which is bent a little forward and catches out over an edge 17 on the lid 3, thus keeping it fast' hen the spring lug 16 is pressed outward, the lid 3 may be lifted and removed.
The fastening of the loose semi-cylinder may be arranged .in several other ways. The cylinder 2, 3 may also be divided in more than two parts, and the bottom plate 4 may be fastened on the removable part of the cylinder. V I
Having thus described and ascertained the nature of my said invention I declare that what I claim is 2- Y 1. A cylindrical bolt case consisting of two semi-cylindrical members provided ad jacent their rear ends with holes; a front plate rigidly connected to the front end of one cylindrical member and detachably connected to the front end of the other member;
and a baclrpla-tehaving marglinal projec- I occupying a common plane; a front plate rigidly connected to the front end of one cylindrical member and detachably connected to the front end of-the other member; and a substantially circular back plate arranged in the rear end of the case in the plane of said holes and formed with a plurality of peripheral lugs fitting in the holes, and with a projection offset from the plane of said plate and detachably engaging one cylindrical member.
In testimony whereof I have ailixed my I signature.
1 SOFUS ANDREW EMIL LARSEN.
