DETACHABLE HEEL. APPLICATION FILED IAN. Io. I9I9.

HENRY COLLIN, 0F NEW YORK, N. Y.
DETACHABLE HEEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 22, 1919.
Application filed .T anuary 10, 1919. Serial No. 270,547.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, HENRY COLLIN, a subject of the King of Roumania, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Detachable Heels, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to shoes and pertains more particularly to a heel construction therefor.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide a new and novel means for removably securing a heel to the body portion of a shoe. l
Referring to the drawings Figure 1 is a transverse sectional View of a shoe showing the manner in which the heel is attached, and
Fig. 2 is a perspective View of the heel.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, the reference character 5 designates the shoe heel which may be constructed in any of the known styles in ywhich heels are made.
Carried by the heel and projecting from the top face thereof are two thin metallic members 6 and 7 which are disposed with their flat faces in contact with each other. The lower ends o-f these members 6 and 7, are bent in the same plane, and secured in the heel by means of a screw or like member 8.
The sole member which includes a welt sole 9 is provided with an opening 10, and through this opening 10, the members Gand 7 are adapted to be passed in securing the heel to the shoe.
After the members 6 and 7 have been passed'through the opening 10, they are bent in opposite directions as shown in Fig. 1 to form two oppositely disposed wings 12 and 18, each of which is provided with a perforation 14.
Before the oppositcly disposed wings 12 and 13 are formed, a washer l5 is placed over their ends, and is adapted to lie in contact with the inner face of the welt sole 9.
This washer 15 is rectangular in shape, and is provided with openings 16 near its opposite ends, which o-penings are adapted to register with the openings 14 in the oppositely disposed wings.
After the washer member 15 has been positioned and the members 6 and 7 have been bent to form the oppositely disposed wings 12 and 13, screws 18, are passed through the registering openings 14 and 16, said screws passing through openings 17 formed in the welt sole, and into engagement with the said heel as shown in Fig. 1.
By this arrangement, it will be seen that when it is desired to remove the heel, it is only necessary to remove the screws 18, bend the oppositely disposed wings to the vertical position shown in Fig. 2 in which position they may be readily withdrawn through the opening 10 in the welt 9.
From the foregoing, it will be seen that the present invention provides means by which a heel may be readily attached to and detached from a shoe, and at the same time when the heel is attached to the shoe, the same is securely fastened thereto.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. In combination with a sole member which includes a welt sole, a heel, a plurality of pliable members carried by the heel, and adapted to engage the inner face of the welt sole, and means engaging through the welt sole, and engaging the heel to secure the same to the welt sole.
2.- In combination with a sole member which includes a welt sole, a heel, a pair of parallel members projecting from said heel, and adapted to be bent in opposite directions to engage the inner face of the Welt sole, and means passing through said oppositely disposed members and into the heel to se- Cure said heel in place on said welt sole.
In testimony whereof I have axed my Y signature.
NRY CULLIN.
