IMPROVEMENT IN GUIDES FOR CUTTING OUT PHOTOGRAPHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 138,202, dated A ril 22, 1873; application filrd January 25, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN ScHoFIELD, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented an Instrument for Cutting out Photographs, of which the following is a specification The object of my invention is to aiford facilities for the cutting out of photographs to an oval or other shape and this object I attain by means of the instrument illustrated in in the perspective view, Figure 1 of the accompanying drawing, in which- A is a rim of metal, made, in the present instance, in the form of an oval, both externally and internally, and to opposite sides of this rim are riveted or otherwise secured the legs of a handle, B, by which the operator with one hand applies the instrument to and presses it on the photographic picture, while, with a sharp knife held in the other hand and applied to the outer edge of the oval rim, as a guide, he cuts the paper to the desired oval shape.
In order that the knife can have no tendency, by its drawing action, to crumple the paper and cut it irregularly, I make the rim of the shape illustrated on an exaggerated scale that of the cut paper must necessarily bear a proper relation to the picture thereon.
Although the rim is illustrated, in the present instance, as being of an oval shape, it may be made in any other form to which it is desired to cut the photograph.
I claim as my invention- The guide, consisting of the rim A and handle B, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose described.
