Description

D. G. GARLUGK.
Harness Makers Gages. N0.135,472, Patented Feb.4,1873.
QL'gJ.
UNITED STATES PATENT .'OEFIcE.
DEWITT G. GARLOCK, OF WHITE CLOUD, KANSAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-MAKERS GAGES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 135,472, dated February 4, 1873.
' To all whom it may concern:
screw for moving the head and handle of the gage, with device for holding the same stationary; and in the combination of the screw with the gage-bar, all shown in the drawing and hereinafter described in this specification.
Figure 1 is a View ofthe reverse side of the gage. Fig.2 is a longitudinal section, taken on the line ma of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a sectional top view, and Fig. 4 1 represents a section taken on the line y y of Fig. 1.
Similar letters o'f reference indicate corresponding parts.
A is the gage-bar. B is the cutter-head, in which is the knife or cutter C, fastened by the thumb-screw D. Eis the movable gage-head and handle, through which the gage-barpasses. F is a screw, one end of which enters the cutter-head, as seenV at G. The other end is attached to the opposite end of the gage-bar by the box H. This screw passes through the gagehead E, and works therein as through a nut. The screw revolves, but is secured, by means of a shoulder andthe finger-wheell, in the box H, so that it has no longitudinal motion.
It will be seen that when the screw7 is 1e volved the gagehead will be moved, and may be set in any desired position.-
J represents a series of holes in the fingerwheel I. This wheel is on the end of the screw outside of the box H. K is a slotted bolt, which is made to slide onthe gage-bar, the end of which enters one of these holes in the wheel when the gage-head is adjusted, and thereby holds the screw and head stationary. This bolt is confined to the under side of the bar by means of a slot and screw and the bo'x H, through which the bolt passes.
This is a great improvement over the gage now in use, and its advantages will be readi- 1y understood and appreciated by all who are engaged in harness-making, and in all opera-- tions where it is necessary to cut leather or similar material int-o strips ot' uniform width.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as newand desire to secure by Letters Patent- The gageh'ead E, combined with the screw F, swiveledrin cutter-head B, and provided with the perforated finger-wheel I J and the gage-bar having' slotted sliding bolt K, arranged as and for the purpose described.
DEWITT G. GARLOC-K.
