Be it known that I, lWILLIAM T. SHERER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a certain new and useiiul Improvement in'Display- Counters, oi' which the following is a speciiication.

My invention relates to display counters adapted for use in grocery stores and the like where goods for sale are kept in drawers and where it is desirable to have samples of the goods in question on display in immediate proximity to the drawers in which they are kept. One object of my invention is to produce such a display counter. Another object of my invention is so to display the goods that they may be observed, examined, and indicated by the customer with the least possible eort.

A is my display counter subdivided into the joined vertical sections A1 by the vertical partitions al uw. Each of these carries in its iorward side the display pocket A2 :uijacent the top oi. the counter, and in its rear the drawers A3.

The display pockets are subdivided into the smaller pockets A4. The number oi' these pockets in the iront oi any given vertical division oit my counter corresponds to the number of drawers in the rear of the saine division. rilius, it there are three subdivisions in any lgiven display pocket there will be three drawers in the rear of the section in which that pocket is mounted.

The use and operation of my invention are as follows:

Vvlhen the counter as shown in Fig. 1 is in use, the goods for sale are displayed in the transparent display pockets, and goods identical with those displayed are contained The salesman will then secure the article in question from the drawer immediately adjacent and in the rear of the pocket.

lVhere it is necessary for the salesman to go to some other place to procure the other article there is always the question in the mind or the purchaser whether he is being furnished with the goods which he has indicated. l/Vhen, however, he indicates the goods which he desires in iront of the counter and the salesman procures those goods from a drawer immediately behind the display pocket', the customer is usually satistied that he is receiving exactly what he has asked for.

I have arranged all of the display pockets of my present counter in a row near the top of the counter thus it is not necessary for the customer to back away from the counter to look at the lower rows, and I do not have any glass along the lower part of the counter where it is likely to be injured or broken.

I claim:

1. As a new article of manufacture, a display counter subdivided into vertical sections, having a row of superimposed drawers, in the rear or each section and a group oi' separate display pockets arranged on the iront of each section, in horizontal aline` ment, adjacent but beneath the top ot the counter', the number ot pockets in each section equaling the number of drawers therein.

2. As a new 'article of manufacture, a display counter subdivided into vertical sections, having a plurality of superimposed drawers in the rear oi each section, and a display pocket on the front or" each section, adjacent the top thereof, said display pocket being sub-divided into a plurality of sepa' rate display spaces, the number of said spaces equaling the number of drawers in the section in which the display vpocket is placed.
