IMPROVEMENT IN BOLTS FOR DOORS, 84c.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 137,994, dated April 15, 1673; application filed October 19, 1872.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN S. It. WRIGHT, of Nichols, in the county of Tioga and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Combined Support and Fastening for Doors; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of thedrawing is arepresentation of an inside view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a view of the same broken away to show its operation.
This invention has relation to a combined door-fastening and door-support; and it consists in the construction and novel arrangement of an eccentric lever, a catch or flanged plate to hold the same when the door is closed; and it also consists in the combination, with said eccentric lever, of a vertical bolt, all substantially as hereinafter more fully described.
A in the drawing designates the door frame or jamb, having secured to the top a perforated plate, a, and to the bottom a flanged plate, a. B designates the door; 0, a vertical bolt passing through a staple, I), attached to the door, and pivoted at its lower end to an eccentric or cam lever, E, which is pivoted to the door near the bottom.
When the lever-handle is lowered, the door being closed, the bolt is projected into the hole in the plate a, thus securing the door atthe top. At the same time the elbow of the lever is pressed against the plate 0. thereby causing the strain on the hinges to be relieved,-
and preventing the door from sagging. The flange a of plate a? secures the door against being pried open at the bottom. A pin, d, limits the movement of the lever when raised.
These improvements are intended especially for heavy doors.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The vertical bolt 0 and eccentric elbowlever E attached to the door B, substantially as specified.
2. The flanged plate (L in combination with the eccentric elbow-lever E, door B, frame A, and bolt 0, substantially as specified.
