lBe it known that l, ALEX-ANDER particularly to locks that may be used upon bothswinging and sliding doors. rlhe principal object of my invention is to provide a bolt that shall securely lock the door when shifted from the casing into a'keeper, and
I subsequently to said'locking operation to interlock said keeper with said casing.
The present invention is an improvement upon the invention disclosed in my application filed December 30, 1919. The main ob ject of this improvement is to reduce the number of parts and to simplify the construction of said lock andthus 'render' it less likely to get out of order and cheapen the manufacturing cost thereof.
Other objects and advantages will appear inthe specification given herein. n
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of the lock showing the disposition of the'mechanism when in unlockedstate. Fig. 2 is a view similar to that'shown in Fig. 1, but showing the 'ar rangement of the parts of the lock when in locking and interlocking state. Fig. 1 also shows in broken lines the position of the bolt when in locking state, only prior to being` projected into vengaging position. y
The lock embodied in myv invention embraces ametal casing 1 anda keeper 2. A. bolt 4L having a hook 5 on itsouter or locking end is connected to a frame?) provided with slots 10 and 11, and projections 8c and 9. A stud 12 on casing 1 is arranged to be receivediin said slot 10, and a lever or any other suitable device may be provided for projecting the bolt into engaging position, said lever 14' being preferablyv pivoted on said casing 1 and providedfwith a stud 18 kadapted to 4be received by slot v11 on said frame 3. A pawl-pressed device for actuating said lever f11i, said lever actuator 27 eing movable in casing 1y and guided in its movement and guarded against displacement laterally by suitable means-not shown. Said actuator is provided with projections 28 29 and a tumbler pawl pivotally mounted thereon at 32. Said pawl embraces a pivot head 31, a projection 34 bearing on projection 28 of actuator 27, a ledge 35 abutting on a lug 36 on casing 1 and a spring attached te its pivot head 31 and leaning against a stud 33C. A link 1S is pivotally attachedby one end tosaid actuator 27 and by the other end to lever 1d through an arm 16 attached to said lever 14;, which is pivoted on casing lat 15.
An armor `a--cam 38 is mounted upon a rotatable sleeve 87, which is rotatable by means of key operated mechanism, and a separate similar device may be operated by means of a knob. Said cams are adapted to operate the locking mechanism, vmoving the hooked boltv longitudinally and subsequently projecting said bolt into engagin@` position.
To perform the complete locking operation, cam 38 upon being operated by rotate ingY sleeve 37 by said key mechanism, first releases frame 3 by bearing against projec! tion 2O of pawl 19, then said cam bears against projection Se of frame 3 and moves said bolt into locking kposition in keeper 2, said studs 12 and 13 functioning guides for said frame 8. ln completing therevolution, said cam 3S further encounters said le# ver actuator 27 and its pawl, bearing against projection 34 of said pawl and releasing said actuator, then bearing against projection 28 of said actuator moves said actuator in a c irection to operate lever 1d and cause stud 13 on said lever to swing said bolt L1*--5 on stud 12 on the casing as a pivotal point and interlock the casing withV the keeper. The Apawl on said actuator engages againwith lug 36 `on 'casing 1, and thus locks saidv actuator,

In a lock, the combination oi a lock casing', a hooked bolt adapted for slidable and pivotal movement on said casing, a cam on said casing, means for moving said bolt into locking` position, means Jior preventing; reverse movement of said bolt '.rom said position except by the instrumentality ot said means, and additional means causing; said cam to project the bolt into engaging position, and for locking said bolt in said position.

In a lock,-the combination oi a lock casing, a hooked bolt to move slidably pivotally thereon, a lever or cam on said casing, means moving said bolt into looking position, and additional means tor subsequently forcing' said lever or cam to project the bolt into ena'aingr position, and acting to lock said bolt in said projected position.
5. In a lock, the combination of a lock casing, a hooked bolt, said bolt being adapted for slidable and pivotal movement on the casing, means for moving' the bolt longitudinally, lever or cam, means upon said cam or lever adapted to project the bolt upon actuating said cam or lever, and separate means for operatino said lever or cam to cause the bolt to be projected into engaging position subsequently to the locking' operation, said separate means acting to prevent reverse movement ot said bolt from said projected position.
6. ln a lock, the combination or a lock casing', a hooked bolt inovably mounted on said casing', a lever or cam upon said casing, an actuator tor said lever or cam, means for moving said bolt and tor subsequently causing said actuator to force the lever or cam toproject the bolt into engaging position, means beingr provided tor locking said bolt in such projected position.
7. In a lock, the combination of a hooked bolt, allock casing, said bolt being' movably mounted on the casing, a bolt projector, means for operating said bolt projector, means for moving said bolt longitudinally and for subsequently causing said means for actuating said bolt projector to cause said projector to move the bolt into engaging position, and to lock said bolt in such position, reverseV movement being` attainable by the instrumentality of said means.
ln a lock, the combination of a hooked bolt, a projector, an actuator for said projector, means for moving said bolt into locking' position and Jfor subsequently causing said actuator to force the projector to move the bolt into enga-ging position, separate means being provided for maintaining the bolt in such position.
9. ln a lock, the combination of a casing, a hooked bolt mounted tor slidable and pivotal movement thereon, a projector, an actuator tor said projector, means on said projector adapted to cooperate with means on the bolt for swinging said bolt on its pivotal point, means tor moving said bolt into locking` position and for subsequently causing; said actuator to operate the projector and cause the means on the projector to swing the bolt on its pivotal point into enposition, and a pavvl acting to prevent reverse movement of said bolt from such projected position.

In a` lock, the combination of a casing, a hooked bolt movably mounted thereon, a projector for said bolt, an actuator for said projector, means for moving said bolt and for subsequently operating said a tua-tor i'or causing said projector toproject the bolt into engaging' position, a pavvl associated with the bolt for locking the bolt against reverse movement, and a pavvl on said actuator acting to prevent reverse movement of the bolt from said projected position, eXcept by the instrumentality of said means. ,y

In a lock, the combination of a lock casing, a hooked bolt movably mounted thereon, a` projector, an actuator for said projector adapted for slidable movement in said casing, means for guiding the movement of said bolt, means for moving the bolt and for subsequently forcing said actuator to move in a direction to operate said projector and cause the bolt to be projected intoi engaging position, and means acting to lock said bolt in such projected position, means being provided for guiding the movement of said actuator. 18. ln a lock, the combination of a lock casing, a hooked bolt movably mounted thereon, a projector, an actuator for said projector, means operably connecting said actuator with said projector, and key or knob mechanism Jfor moving said bolt into locking position and for subsequently operating said actuator to cause said projector to move the bolt into engaging position, means being provided for maintaining said bolt in such projected position, reverse movement being attainable by the instrumentality of said mechanism.

In a lock, the combination of a bolt, one or more hooks on the outer or locking end thereof, a lock casing, said bolt being adapted for slidable and pivotal movement on said casing, a projecting device, an actuator for said device, said actuatorv being mounted for slidable movement on said casing, means for guiding the movement of the bolt on the casing, means 'for guiding the movement of said actuator on the casing, and key or knob mechanismfor moving said bolt into locking position and for subsequently operating said actuator and causing said projecting device to move the bolt into engaging position, apawl being provided or preventing reverse movement of said bolt from said locking position except by the instrumentality of said mechanism, and a pawl associated with said actuator preventing reverse movement of the bolt from said projected position except by the instrumentality of said mechanism.
16. In a lock, the combination of a hooked bolt, a projecting device, an actuator, a link connecting said actuator with said projecting device, means for moving said hooked bolt and for subsequently operating said actuator to cause the projecting device to move the hooked bolt into engaging position.
