To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that WQ,\OSCAR M. FULWIDER and ALBERT E. BURRUSS, citizens of the United States, residing at Norfolk, in the county of Norfolk and State of Virginia,'
to exclude dust and air, until there is an cc-- casion to repeat the operation.
A further object is to prevent injury to the barrel orreceptacle and the consequent deterioration of the contents thereof.
Further objects and advantages will be more fully described herein and specifically pointed out in the annexed claim recourse being had 'to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification 1n which Figure 1 is a plan of the barrel and our improved head without the cross or holding bar.

In order to prevent leakage throughthe rabbeted joints we provide a head or beading 5, which fits into a corresponding groove in the opposite rabbeted member as shown in Figs. 3 and 4, As an additional precaution against leakage, we apply thin sheet packing 5*, (Fi '5) on the surface of the rabbet joints, as s own.
. One or both of the central members 4: may be hinged as at 6 in Fig. 8, 7 being the hinge wire on pin, 8 the stump or prop joint, taken withthe quarter round 9, forms a joint similar-to that used on drop leaf tables.
The hinge wire 7 extends outward from the edge of the central member or members so that the protruding ends of the wire may engage suitable orifices in the outer members 3, as at 7" in Fig. 7.
10 is a screw head on one of the central members so that they may be lifted by inserting any convenient bar or board under the head and'the same may be raised by prying.
11 and 12 are the left and right hand metal or wood straps, respectively, and are screwed on the outer head members so that the hereinafter named bar may pass through them and be locked by it. One of the straps, as at 12, is adapted to be hingedly connected so that one part 13 may swing aside from the other, as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 2 and in full lines in Fig. 6.
