T 0 all whom it may concern:
EDWARD H. rnrrrs, or crncrniverr'o i HINGE srranotrunn.
Be it known that I, EDWARD Hal hlrrs, a citizen of the United States, TBSlCllIlg at Cincinnati,"in the county of Hamilton and tate of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hinge Structures, of which the following is a specification, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings. v
This invention relates to certain improvements in receptacles and has relation more vparticularly to a device of this general character especially. designecland adapted for use in connection with reels for moving picture films, and it is an object of the invention to its construction comprises a small number of parts which, when assembled, afford a structure possessing strength whereby the transporting of the same efiectively A still further object of the invention is to provide a device of this general character including hingedly connected sections, to
gether with novel and improved. means whereby position. I v
The invention consists in the details of construction and in thecombination and arrangement of the several parts of my im proved receptacle whereby certain important advantages are attained and the devlce rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
hereinafter be definitely claimed. e
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to def scribe the same with reference to the accompanying drawings, wherein: p p

ceptacle, and handle for carr'ying. the receptacle;
Figure 5 is a fragmentary yiew iny l v tion sections in closed Flgure 6 is a members for holding the sections eras receptacle closed, v v
I P ed ivray 'g ggg;
As hereinembodied my r id stantially duplicate construction, and "each seml-cyl ndrlcal, so that,l-whenv the sections are inclosedrelation, the receptacle'will be cylindrical infiform adapted for use in moving picture films.
Each of the sections A:
or flexed into desired form, and coacting with the opposite ends thereof are the end plates 2, alsopreferably of metal, and semi circular in. form. The portion of each of the roundedmarginal plates is provided and which configuraw same belngparticularly' connectlon with reelsfor and 3 comprises a sheet 1, preferably of metal, and bended with the inwardly directed and'substantially' perpendicularly related flanges 3, which are preferably spot weldedv to .the' buitably applied to 'the'outer faces of the plates '1and2 are the laminations 4,3 pref- Plate 1 1.

and 2 also have suitably secured thereto the of fibre board, to
knuckles of one section areaadapted to mesh or interlock with the second section, as is clearly illustrated in Figures 41- and 5} Uoacting with the sleeves or knuckles 5 at adjacent edges of 1 is a pivotal member P. tially comprises two straight portions 6, which exten dgthrough the meshing or interlocking sleeves orthe sleeves or knuckles of 5, and serve asr pintles for hingedly.
ti cularly illustrated in Figures 3 and ,7, it
vis to be noted that said laminations 4 ter- [10 i vided with the rolled extensions 5, 'whichaflord sleeves or knuckles, and the sleeves" or i the plate a The member P inisections including 6. After the portions 6 engaged through the inner extremities of the portions 8 are The knuckles or welded or otherwise connected, as at a so that the member P is effectively maintained in applied position, and accidental complete separation of the sections A and B substantially eliminated. By this construction of the member P, said member affords a loop or hand grasp whereby the receptacle be readily and conveniently carried by a person.
and B interlock or A and B are closed other, and coa'ctlng sides of the sections A mesh when the sections one withrespect to the with, said sleeves or knuckles 5 are the pintles SHJHG are a lock of desired type, or other H, each of theholding'membersH comprlsing a straight portion 9 adapted to be inserted through certain of these knuckles or sleeves 5', and said portion 9 is continued by a returned portion '10 substantially in parallelism with the portion 9 but slightly spaced therefrom. The portion 10 terminates in an eye 11. The portions 9 or" the pintles Hare inserted through the knuckles or sleeves 5 at opposite ends of the receptacles, and the moved inwardly until'the members 11 are brought into register. The shackle o't theninserted through the eyes, whereby the sections A and. B are efit'ectively locked in closed relation.
As is illustrated in Figure 2, it is to be noted that the portions A of the member P are spaced sufficiently from the portions 6 so that the member P will offer no obstruction to the opening or separating movement of the secsleeves 5 at the opposite means, is
tions A and B, and so that said sections may be brought substantially into alignment in order to permit the application or removal of the reels R of one of the open sections independently ot the other. i
From the foregoing description, it is thought to be obvious that a receptacle constructed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason I it may be assembled and operated and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification with out departing from the principles and spirit" for this reason I do not wish to thereof and as limiting myself to the prebe understood cise arrangement and formation of the Sev eral parts herein shown in carry ng out my I the convenience and facility with which invention in practice except as hereinafter two sections, similar marginal portions.
2. A device of the class described compris 111g two hingedly connected sections, similar marginal portions of the sections being pro vided with knuckles adapted to intermesh when the sections are closed to the other, pintles insertable through the knuckles from opposite sides, portions of the pintlesbeing returned and terminating in eyes, said eyes substantially registering when the 'pintles are in applied position, and means coactingwith the eyes for locking the pintles in working position.
In testimony whereof I hereunto signature.
