Description

V. ROSENLOF.
STRAP CONNECTION FOR HARNESS. APPLICATION man 0cT.22,191a.
Patented May 3,1921.
PATENT OFFICE.
VICKTOR ROSENLOF, OE TIMBER LAKE, SOUTH DAKOTA.
STRAP CONNECTION FOB HARNESS.
Application fiIed October 2'7, 1916.
T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Vronron RosnNLor, acitizen of the United States of America, and residentof Timber Lake, in the county of Dewey and State of South Dakota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Strap Connections for Harness, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to harness and particularly to means for adjusting traces, the connections between the collars 0t harness and the whirlletrees, the said invention also including means by which the back bands and the belly bands of harness are connected, so that the traces are supported at the sides of the animal to wh'ch the harness is applied.
A. further object 01" this invent-ion is to produce a connection of the character indicated which will permit ready adjustment of the parts to insure automatic chimping to hold the parts in adjusted positions, the said invention also having the advantage that it is of comparatively simple construction, proving at the same time ine.:pensivc to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention consists in the details of construction, and in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed.
In describing the invention in detail, ref erence will be had to the accompanying drawings forming part of this specification, wherein lilre characters denote corresponding arts in the several views and in which Figure 1 illustrates a view in perspective showing the application of the invention to harness;
via. 2 illustrates a perspective view ol fragme .ts of he harness with the invention applied thereto;
Fig. illustrmes a sectional view on the o t Fig. 4:; and c'. illustr tes a plan view of the de- In these drawings 5 denotes the staple or bracket for attachment to the hames of a harness. 6 a liexible member extending from the said bracket 5 and adapted to be adjustably connected to the coupling 7, which COUPliIig is a framelike structure having loops 8 and 9 at its sides for attachment of the back band 10 and belly band 11 respectively, The coupling 7 has an aperture 12 Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 128,055.
which, with the frame, constitutes a means by which the trace or tug 13 is attached to the said coupling and can be made adjustable therein by reason of the fact that it can be curved around the bar and the loose end extended parallel with the trace or tug and held in place.
The frame of the coupling also has cars 14 and 15 in which a clamping rod 16 is pivoted eccentrically and the surface of the said clamping bar is knurled or otherwise roughened to insure proper frictional contact with the flexible member 6 so that the said flexible member 6 may be adjustably held in place by the said coupling. is is shown in the drawing that the clamping bar acts in conjunction with a cross bar 16 which comprises a part of the frame.
A device made in accordance with this invention may have its body stamped from metal or it may be cast and the parts associated therewith may be readily assembled so that the cost of production is relatively small and as a means for making harness adaptable to animals of different sizes, and has advantages which will be apparent to those skilled in the art and since the clamping bar is eccentrically mounted, it immediately en ages and clamps the member (3 and clamping action is augmented in proportion to the pull on the said flexible member.
A tongue A has an eye 13 which is mounted on a pivot C of the body and the curve of the tongue is such as to cause the said tongue to it tionally engage a strap which may be inserted under it so as to hold the strap by reason of its frictional engagement.
I claim In a ha ness buckle, a frame longitudinally curved, a plurality oi lips extending outwardly therefr m bars journaled therein, one of said l being journaled eccentric-ally and having a roughened surface adapted to automm cal y grip a strap when said strap is pulled in one direction, a bar extending across said frame parallel with said eccentric bar forming base with which the eccentrically mounted bar coacts, a tongue having a curved surface for engaging a strap, said curved tongue terminating in an eye. said eye being pivotally mounted on one of said first mentioned bars, as and for the purpose described.
