Description

A. THILLEN CHECK LOOP.
(No Model.)
"Patnted June 20. 1882.

U ITE STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTHONY THILLEN, OF PERRY, NEW YORK. I
CHECK-LOOP.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 259,944, dated June 20, 1882.
Application filed December 1, 1881. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ANTHONY THILLEN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Perry, in the county of Wyoming, in the State of New York, have invented a new and uselul Improvement in Check-Loops, of whit-h the following is a specification.
This invention relates more particularly to a device in which the rear end of an overdraw check-rein is secured to the saddle or check hook, and has for its object the production of a simple, cheap, and durable loop.
My invention consists of the particular construction of the device, as hereinafter fully set forth.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing the application of my improved loop to the check-rein and saddle-hook. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section, and Fig. 3 atop-plan View, of my improved loop, partly in section.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several figures.
A represents that part of the device which is attached to the rear end of the overdraw check-rein, and which consists of a horizontal loop, 12, and a vertical loop, 0, projecting rearward from the rear bar of the horizontal loop b. The rear endof the check-rein is drawn through the opening 01 of the loop and fastened by a buckle or by scwin g, as may be preferred.
The part A of the device is preferably cast in one piece of malleable iron or other suitable metal. I
E represents a horizontal loop, which is attached with its forward end to the loop c,and has itsopeningemade of the propersize and shape to engage over the saddle-hook. The loop E is preferably constructed of a strip of leather bent to the desired shape and secured to the loop 0 by rivets, which pass through the double ends of the strip of leather of which the loop E is formed, as clearly shown in the drawings. The loop E being constructed of leather, it is pliable and moves on the saddle-hook without noise, while the metallic portion A of the device forms a ready means for attaching the check-rein and retains the latter in its proper position.
I claim as my invention A loop for overdraw check-reins, composed of a metallic portion, A, which consists of a horizontal loop, b, and a vertical loop, 0, cast in one piece, the loop b being adapted to receive the check-rein, and a horizontal loop, E, of flexible material, secured to the loop 0 and adapted to engage over the saddle-hook, substantially as set forth.
