ROOFING.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 20. 1919.

a r lTED' STATES QHARLES G. MILLARD, 0F ONEILL, NEBRAS ROOFING.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Apr, 2%, 1921.
Application filed September 20, 1919. Serial No. 325,075.'
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES C. MILLARD, a citizen of the United States, residing at ONeill, in the county of Holt and State of Nebraska, have invented new and useful Improvements in Roofing, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a novel construc- .tion of-means for securing paper, felt, rubberoid, fiber or metallic sheet roofing in a manner to prevent the roofing from buckling or being loosened or blown off by strong winds. holding the roofing firmly in place and preventing leakage.
Specifically stated, the invention makes use of a number of small pads coated on both sides with an adhesive substance, so that when the pads are arranged between the sheathing and the roofing they will be effectively secured together at various parts over the entire area of the roofing.
In the drawing forming part of this specification like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentary plan view of a roof illustrating the invention.
Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1. J
Fig. 3 is an enlarged detail view of one of the pads.
Referring to the drawing in detail, 10 indicates the sheathing of a roof, while the covering or roofing is indicated at 11. In accordance with the present invention the roofing ll is adapted to be secured to the sheathing around its marginal edges in any well known manner. use being made of a plurality of pads of the type indicated in Fig. 3 for securing the roofing 11 to the sheathing at various points throughout the entire area thereof. For this purpose, the pads 12 which may be constructed of felt or any suitable material, are coated on both sides with an adhesive substance, and as shown in Fig. 1 these pads are distributed at various points over the entire area of the roofing between the sheathing 10 and the roofing 11. \Vhen in place the pads provide a connection between the sheathing l0 and the roofing 11 holding the roofing firmly in place and preventing the latter from being torn or blown off the building by strong winds, whichis frequently the case where the roofing is not secured at its center or at appropriate points over its area. the pads 12, it is not necessary to puncture the roofing 11 with nails or other fastening elements.
lVhile I have shown and described what I consider the preferred embodiment of the invention I desire to have it understood that I do not limit myself to this connection, in
that such changes may be resorted to when desired as fall within the scope of what is claimed.
. Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is r i A roof structure including a sheathing, a roofing, and a' plurality of disks interposed between the sheathing and roofing at spaced points over the area of the latter, said disks being coated on both sides with an adhesive substance to provide a connection between the sheathing and roofing.
By use of In testimony whereof 'I afiix mysignature.
' CHARLES C. MILLARD.
