BAG-HOLDER.
' Application The improved bag holder and hopper is preferably constructed from a single blank, which when appropriately formed is adapted to be bent into a substantially rectangular shape to provide a bottom lateral ledge over which the upper edge of the bag is placed, and an upstanding wall against which the mouth edge of the bag may be drawn That portion of the blank above the upstanding wall is shaped to provide a hopper to direct material into the bag.
The invention also contemplates the provision of means whereby the bag holder and hopper, together with the connected bag may be readily and quickly supported in a rigid manner from a fixture, with the supporting means so arranged that the bag holder and hopper is wholly at one side of the fixture to avoid interference with the introduction of material into the bag.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a plan of the blank formed to provide the improved bag holder and hopper.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the blank partly folded.
Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the completely folded blank, and the bag holding means and bag holder supports in position.
Fig. 1 is an end elevation of the bag holder showing the supporting means at one end.
Fig. 5 is a detail showing more particularly the means for securing the bag on the holder.
Fig. 6 is a perspective View of a modified form.
The preferred form of bag holder of the present invention is constructed from a metallic blank in sheet form, and, as best seen in Fig. 1 formed to provide identical side portions 1 and 2 and identical end portions 3 and 4. The division of these portions is Specification of Letters Patent.
and useful 1 Patented Apr. 19,1921,

from the lower edge of the blank, a considerable margin at the upper edge of the blank as 5 being left intact. The lower margin lengthwise the blank,'as6, is de signed to form an outstanding'wall or flange of the completed blank, above which each. side and end portion has an intermediate section 7 forming the upstanding wallof the blank, and between such intermediate section and the upper margin 5 each side and end portion of the blank has a ledge section 8. These various divisions of the blank in both side and end sections are indicated by lines, which show the line of fold. The front and back sections are pro-' vided beyond their marginal edges, in line 7 with each of the sections 6, 7 and 8, with l1ps 9, for securing the blank in folded relation, the front and back end sections having triangular lips 10 in line with the sections 6 and 8, while the section 7 is without projecting lips.
The blank is folded in the obvious manner indicated in Figs. 2 and 3 of the draw-' ings, so that in completed form the bag holder presents abottom lateral flange 11,
made up of the sections 6 of the various.
parts ofthe blank, an upstanding wall; 12, made up of the section 7 outstanding ledge 13 at the upper edge of the wall, and made up of the. sections 8 of the blank, and an upstanding'edge 1 1, at the outer edge of the ledge 13 and made up of the unbroken upper margin of the blank.
A holding pin 15 is secured in what may be termed the rear side of the bag holder, being secured in the wall 12 above the flange 11. A hook 16 of approximately U form, with a comparatively long bill is pivotally supported from the upstanding edge 14 in line with the pin 15.
The bag, as shown is drawn over the flange 11 with the mouth edge in close contact with the upstanding wall 12. I The excess portion of the mouth of the bag is passed around the pin 15, and the hook 16 is turned down beneath such portion to secure the same to the pin. The bag is thus tightly held against the upstanding wall 12 of the bag holder and while secured in-this- The bag holder is provided with supportof the blank, an
ened. A cooperating hook is ranged at each end of ,ing means at each end thereof whereby the edge 14' at each end of the bag holder, the
bill portion 19 of this hook being comparatively shallow and the end thereof sharppivotally supported at21 on the hook 17, the "billof this hook being rather deep as at 22and the I end sharpened.
The supporting means described, when artioned that. the cooperating hooks project beyond one side edge of the holder. In applying the bag holder and connected bag to a support, as a platform, shell, or the like,
the rear upstanding edge 1% of the holder is placed against said support, with the .hook member 17 beneath the same. The hook member 20 is then moved to engage the up per surface of said bag holder and bag will be connected and rigidly supported from the fixture, while yet permitting its convenient removal.
In Fig. 6 there is shown a modified form in which the bag holder is made up of a rectangular frame 22, to which the bag may be secured in any convenient manner, as by a metallic strip 23 extended over the edge of the holder and embracing the bag, fastening means 24 holding the parts connected. In this form the supporting means described in connection with the preferred form is also used.
' The improved bag holder particularly with its supporting means provides a convenient collection receptacle for receiving the droppings of a hen house, when cleaning the same from theplatform, or for the the holder, is so posisupport, whereupon the.
structed as substantial sheet metal, and is to be made in any desired size and relative pro portion of the box.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is
1. A bag holder having an intermediate upstanding wall, a downwardly and outwardly flaring flange at the lower edge of said wall adapted to hold an open bag thereon, an upwardly and outwardly flaring flange at the. upper edge of said wall, and an upstanding edge portion at the outer edge of said upper flange.
2'. A bag holder having an intermediate upstanding wall, a downwardly and outwardly flaring flange at the lower edge of said wall, an upwardly and outwardly flaring flange at the upper edge of said wall, and an upstanding edge portion at the outer edge of said upper flange, in combination with a holding pin projecting from the up standing wall and a hook member cooperating with said pin and pivotally supported on the upstandingedge of the holder.
3. A bag holder having an intermediate upstanding wall, a downwardly and outwardly flaring flange said wall, an upwardly and outwardly flaring fiange at the upper edge of said wall, and an upstanding edge portion at the outer edge of said upper flange, a supporting hook secured to the upstanding edge of said holder and a cooperating hook pivoted to EARL W. HURLBUTT.
