To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, CHARLES F. MoBnE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Athens, in the county of Athensand State 5 of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Loose-Leaf Files, of which the following-isthe specification.

The object of my invention is to produce a loose leaf file which will have. all the permanency of'a bound volume and yetcan be easily and quickly opened and locked, for convenience in removing or adding sheets thereto.

My invention consists of certain details of construction hereinafter set forth, pointed out in my claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:

Referring to the accompanying drawings, the reference numerals 10 and 11 indicate the upper and lower covers of my file, each of which is provided with a hinged portion 12 and 13 respectively, which portions are joined by the back 14. At the point of junction of the back with the lower cover, I have provided a hinge joint 15 which is designed to permit the back to fall down and lie fiat, and in line with the lower cover, when the file is open.

The numerals 16 and 17 indicate plates which serve the dual purpose of retaining the upper cover and back at right angles to each other, and to extend forwardly from the back to overlap the hinged portion of the lower cover, a recess, or slot, 18 and 19 respectively, opening forwardly, being provided in each plate. near its forward end and near its base. These said plates are mounted one near each edge surface of the file. and the filed sheets lie between them.

Having thus described m invention what forcing theslots overthe rods and'causing I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

A loose leaf file comprising a back and upper and lower covers loosely secured together, each of said covers also having a hinge near its inner end; a plate, havlng orificed flanges on each of its ends, mounted on theupper surface of the lower cover and inside of the hinged portion thereof, said plate also having upwardly projecting hollow posts secured thereto; a wire spring overlying said plate, its ends projecting through the orifices in the flanges, said spring lying on the inner side ofthe upright posts; right angular plates joining rigidly at right angles the back and the inner hinged P01111011 of the upper cover, each of'said plates being provided with recesses to receive the ends of the wire spring and thereby secure the'back in right angularposition with the inner hinged portion of the lower cover-5a carrier plate provided with posts designed to telescope within the upright hollow posts, substantially as shown and described. 1

A loose leaf file comprising a back and upper and lower covers loosely secured thereto, said covers also having hinges near their inner ends; a plate, having orificed flanges on each of its ends, mounted on the upper surface of the lower coverand inside of the: hinged portion thereof, said plate also having upwardly projecting hollow posts secured thereto; a wire spring overlying said plate,itsends proj ectinglthrough the orifices in the flanges, said spring lying on the inner side of the upright posts; right angular foregoing specificatlon.
