Description

UNETEE TATES HAIR-CBIMPER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYRTIE GRAnLn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Nahcotta, in the county of Pacific and State of l/Vashington, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair-Crimpers, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to a hair engaging pin, and more particularly to the class of hair crimpers.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a pin or crimper, of this character, wherein the hair upon the head of a user can be twisted about a pair of resilient prongs, which when brought together and fastened will clamp the wrapped hair thereon for the successful crimping of the same, the pin or crimper being of novel construction so as to enable the easy twisting or wrapping of the hair about the prongs, whereby the twisted or wrapped hair can be firmly and securely clamped for the effective crimping thereof.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a pin or crimper of this character,
wherein the same simulates a safety pin having double prongs for the twisting of hair about the same and the clamping thereof to permit the crimping of the hair, the prongs being readily detachably engaged in a retaining hook formed on the frame of the pin or crimper, the crimped hair being readily removed from the prongs on disengaging the latter from the hook, thus assuring the easy application of the crimper and its removal.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a pin or crimper of this character, wherein the. frame and the double prongs are made from a single piece of reabout said prongs.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented lhfil. 19, 1921. Application filed October 27,1919. Serial No. 333,589.
in'open position and strands of hair wound Fig. 2 is a view similar to Fig. '1 showing the prongs in opposed clamping position, the strand of hair being not shown.
Similar reference characters indicate corresponding parts throughout the several views in the drawing. Referring to the drawing in detail A designates generally the frame and B, the double prongs of the pin or crimper which are made from a single length of relatively rrgld wire 5 bent medially thereof with the portions twisted together as at 6 for a distance, while the bight end is turned at right angles to the twisted portions 6 and is further turned to providea hook 7.
Beyond the twisted portions 6 the wire 5 is convoluted to provide the resilient coils twisting of the hair about the prongs or the wrapping of such hair thereon as is shown 1n F 1g. l of the drawing. When the prongs are moved from normal open position as shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing after the twisting or wrapping of hair thereon the same are engaged in the hook 7 so that the prongs will clamp the twisted or wrapped hair firmly for the successful crimping of the hair.
On the disengagement of the prongs B from the hook 7 of the frame A the coils 8 will be active upon the prongs to spring the same outwardly to open position and said prongs can be readily removed from the crimped hair previously wrapped or twisted thereon and clamped thereby so that the pin or crimper can be readily detached or removed by the user as will be clearly apparent. It is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be made in the invention, such as come properly within the scope of the appended claim, without departin from the spirit of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
It is believed that the construction and manner of use of the invention will be clearly apparent from the foregoing detailed description, therefore a more extended explanation has been omitted.
What is claimed is:
In a hair crimper of the class described,
comprising a frame formed of a single length of Wire bent to provide an intermediate twisted portion of the frame and opposed hook and coiled extremities thereto,
and parallel spaced eitensions of equal length projecting from the coils and formed by the ends of the Wire to provide double '1 prongs for detachable engagement in the hooked extremity and extending beyond the same, sa1d prongs being dlsposed at the outer sides of the coils, whereby the hair Will retained MYRTIE GRABLE.
