NORRIS FEYERS. INC L|TNO. WASHINGTON. D C
MARTIN FINNEMANN, OF KIMBALL, MINNESOTA.
PORTABLE COOKER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed October 30, 1919. Serial No. 334,402.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN FINNEMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kimball, in the county of Stearns and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Portable Cookers; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in portable cookers or stoves, and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character which can be easily and quickly assembled and disassembled when desired, and when disassembled can be carried or stored in a comparatively small space.
Another object of this invention is the provision of means whereby the fire box can be rotated or turned in relation tothe base so as to regulate the draft to the fire.
A further object of this invention is the provision of a portable cooker of the above stated character, which shall be simple, durable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
With these and other objects in view as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combi-. nation, and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference is to be had to the following description, and accompanying drawin s, in which *igure 1 is a front elevation of a portable cooker constructed in accordance with my invention, V
Flg. 2 1s a vertical sectlonal view of the same,
tion from the fire on the firegrate.
disposed rod 4 on which is .journaled an auxiliary base 5. The top face of the base 1 has ournaled thereon rollers 6 adapted to support the auxiliary base 5 and permit the same to be easily turned or rotated in rela tion to the base 1. The rod 4 extends above thetop face of the auxiliary base 5 and has rotatably secured thereto a circular perforated grate 7 on which is adapted to be built the fire. Circularly arranged and vertlcally disposed pins 8 are secured to the top face of the auxiliary base 5 and terminate in close proximity to the grate 7 so as to lnnit the downward movement of the grate when subjected to undue strain from heavy fuel placed thereon.
A cylindrical drum 9 constructed from sheet metal or any other material suitable for the purpose is detachably secured to the auxiliary base 5 by fastening elements 10 and receives therein the grate 7. The top face of the auxiliary base 5 is provided with an annular groove 11 to receive the lower edge of the drum. 9. The upper end of the drum 9 is closed by a top wall 12 in which is positioned or secured a smoke stack 13 for carrying off the products of combus- The drum 9' is provided with a double doorway 14 that extends above and below the 'fire grate as clearly shown in the drawing and is closed by doors 15 and 16. The door 15 is disposed above the grate 7 so that fuel can be readily fed into the drum on the grate, while the door 16 is disposed below the grate so that ashes and the like can be removed and also can be left open to give draft to the fire on the grate.
The drum 9 is reinforced by metallic strips 17 which also overlie the top wall of the drum so that when heavy cookmg utensils are placed on the device the danger of injuring or crushing the drum is entirely obviated. The drum has secured to oppositely disposed sides thereof handles 18 so that the device can be conveniently carried. A handle 19 is secured to the grate 7 and extends through a slot 20 in the drum so that PatentedApr. 12, 1921.
the grate can be rotated for the purpose of way out of the wind cuts oil the draft to the While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination, and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is 1. A portable stove comprising a main base, a vertical pivot member secured centrally of the base, an auxiliary base rotatably mounted on the pivot member and arranged above and in spaced relation to the main base, said pivot member extending above the auxiliary base, a grate rotatably secured to the upper end of the pivot menu her, a drum inclosing the grate and secured to the auxiliary base and having a doorway extending above and below the grate, and doors arranged one above the other for closing the doorway and one door being arranged above the grate and the other door arranged below the grate, said doors capable of moving independently of each other.
2. A portable stove comprising a main base, a vertical pivot member secured centrally of the base, an auxiliary base rotatably mountedon the pivot member and arranged above and in spaced relation to the main base, spaced rollers journaled to the main base and engaging the auxiliary base adjacent its edges to cooperate with the pivot member in rotatably supporting the latter named base, said pivot member extending above the auxiliary base, a grate rotatably secured to the upper end of the pivot member, a drum inclosmg the grate and secured to the auxiliary base and having a doorway extending above and below the grate, and doors arranged one above the other for closing the doorway.
3. A. portable stove comprising a main base, a vertical pivot member secured centrally of the base, an auxiliary base rotatably mounted on the pivot member and having the latter projecting above the same, a grate rotatably secured to the upper end of the pivot member, spaced pins secured to the auxiliary base and adapted to prevent sagging of the grate, a drum inclosing the grate and secured to the auxiliary base and having a doorway, and doors for closing said doorway.
t. A portable stove comprising a main base, a vertical pivot member secured centrally'of the base, an auxiliary base rotatably mounted on the pivot member and the latter extending above the auxiliary base, a grate rotatably secured to, the upper end of the pivot member, a spacing element on the pivot. member between the grate and the auxiliary base, said auxiliary base having an annular groove, drum inclosing the grate and secured within the groove and having a doorway, and doors closing said doorway. I
In testimony whereof I atfix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARTIN FINNEMANN.
