SHEET-DELIVERY FOR PRINTING-MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 12, 1921.
Application filed March 18, 1920. Serial No. 366,909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL WINKLER, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, resident at Berne, in the Swiss Republic, have invented new and useful Sheet-Delivery for Printing- Machines, of which the following is a specification.
My present invention relates to an improvement in the device for taking printed sheets from impression cylinders of printing machines described and claimed in my Patent 1,291,665 in which tapes leading the sheet away from the impression cyllnder take said sheet with the printed side up from said impression cylinder at the surface speed of same and deliver the sheet at a decreased speed to a system of open cords or tapes moving at the same decreased speed and arranged to be alternately wound on and ofi a spindle.
According to my invention the open cords or tapes moving continuously at the decreased speed'are carried out as an endless cord or tape system, in such a manner that the end-loops carried by guide-rollers move backward and forward over and under the delivery table, so that both loops describe the same path, although one over, and the other under, the delivery table. The advantage of this construction is that the ma chine is not lengthened, as it is by existin constructions of such apparatus, in which the under loops move backward and forward between the delivery table and impresssion cylinder. WVhen the upper loop advances it transports a sheet over the delivery table, on which it allows the sheet to fall by retreating.
In the drawing one construction of the device is shown as applied to a machine having a reciprocating impression cylinder.
As in the device shown in my Patent 1,291,665 the endless tapes 0 move at the moment in which a sheet is taken from the impression cylinder at the same speed as the impression cylinder and deliver said sheet to the tape system 7: at a reduced speed. For this purpose a spur wheel a engaging in the cylinder spur wheel h is adapted to drive a spur wheel 12 mounted on thespindle carrying the front guide rolls over which the tapes run, said spur wheel o being provided with a free Wheel motion enabling it to rotate the spindle in one direction der to the tapes 0, but not in the opposite direction, when the impression cylinder rotates forward. During the forward oscillation of the impression cylinder, the tapes 0 are moved at a slower speed than before, by the chain 72 passing over the chain wheels 8. The tapes 7c are carried by rollers m, m mi, spindles Z, Z and rollers m m. The spindles Z, Z are fastened to the endless chains n, which are carried by the chain wheels 8, t, p, r, g and are moved backward and forward by the spur wheel 2), which is a double wheel oscillated by the chain a running over the duplicate part of the chain wheel 29 and over the chain wheel 0 attached to the spur wheel h engaging in the oscillating spur wheel it. By the reciprocation of the chains n the spindles Z, Z are also moved, so that the corresponding loop ends alternately take the end position I and II. In the position shown in the drawing the loop ends are just before the end position II.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
In combination with the impression cylinder of a printing machine, a sheet delivery device, means to periodically drive said device at the same linear speed as the circumference of said impression cylinder, while the sheet is passing from said cylinder to.
said device and until it has left said cylinder, means to periodically drive said device at a lower speed, a second sheet transporting device adapted to take the sheets from said first device and consisting of endless tapes, transport rollers carrying the end loops of said tapes, a delivery table adjoining said first sheet delivery device, and
means to move said loops backward and forward over, and under, said delivery table, substantially as, and for the purpose, set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CARL VVINKLER.
Witnesses: M. MULLER, O. MURBAOH.
