NORRIS PETERS. INC Lnnu WAsnmomN D C CLOSURE-FASTENER FOR ASH-SIFTERS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed September 1, 1920. Serial No. 407,530. g f
T 0 all'whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, STANISLAW ZYsKow-- em, a citizen of Poland, residing at VVilkes- Barre, in the county of Luzerne and State of 7 Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closure-Fasteners for Ash-Sifters, of which the following is a specification. 1
The present invention relates to theum provements in ash sifter closures, and 1t 1s the object of the invention to provlde a simple and practical fastener for the closure of ash sifters which allow a ready removal of the refuse, is positive in its operation and relatively inexpensive to manufacture.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which characters of reference refer to like-named parts in the drawings.
Referring briefly to the drawings, Figure 1 is a crosssectional elevational view of my device.
Fig. 2 is a side elevational View of the same.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary View showing my detachable base.
Referring now in detail to the drawings,- the numeral 1 represents the cylindricalinciosing frame of my device, and 2 the'base or bottom of said frame, which is hingedly attached to the frame 1 by means of the hinge 3. v
' lifting the entire device able.
A recess 21 having a tongue 22 is provided in the periphery of the base 2, and a hook 11 is adapted to engage said tongue, said hook being pivotally attached at 12 to the frame 1, and being connected by a rod, 13
slidable in sleeves 14, to an operating handle 15. It is apparent that In use, the ashes removed from the grate of a fire-place are placed into the sifter and sifted therein in the customary manner, and the refuse of the sifting process falls upon the bottom 2, and-is removed therefrom by r and then operating the handle for opening the bottom 2.
I claim; 7 1 v In a deviceof the class described, a casing having a base member pivotally attached thereto, a recess in the periphery of said base, a tongue rigid with said base and extending into said recess, a substantially S- shaped hook pivotally attached to said frame and adapted to enter said recess and engage said tongue, a rod pivotally attached to said hook and extending Vertically along the exterior of said casing, and means attached to the upper end of said rod for movsaid rod, said rod being vertically slid- In testimony whereof affix my signature.
upon lifting of the 1 handle 15, the hook 11 will disengage from the tongue 21. Y
