Description

R. w. FROST. Wardrobe Bedstead's. No. 187,356. Patnmi/\pm1,1a73.4

Q Q l @SW j Y AM. pHoro-umoGRAFH/c co, Mx( miams/e1; PRcsss) RICHARD W. FROST7 OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
IMPROVEMENT IN WARDROBE BEDSTEADS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. l37,356, dated April l, 1873; application led February 8, 1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD W. Fnosr, of the city, county, and Sta-te of New York, have invented a new and Improved Inclosed Folding-Bed, ot' which the following is a specification:
The invention consists in the improvement of wardrobe bedsteads, as hereinafter described and pointed out in the claim.
Figure lisa front elevation of myiinproved nclosed folding-bed, showing the bed unfolded for use. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of it when folded up and inelosed in the case, the section being taken on the line a0 x of Fig. l. Fig. 3 is a sectional elevation ofthe case and side elevation ofthe bed, thelat ter being unfolded for use. Fi g. tis afrontelcvation ofthe door ot' the case detached; and Figs. 5 and 6 are details, showing a dilferent plan for the attachment of the legs, so that they can be readily disposed so as not to obstruct the folding of the bed in the case.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the case for inclosing the bed, which, in this example, is constructed in Vthe forni of a bureau in respect of its external appearance, and has a drawer, B, in the upper part, and a detachable front, C, below, which closes the entrance to the space D for inclosing the bed; but it may be hinged to the case, and made in one or two parts. E represents the mattress, which is hinged to the bottom of the case at G. It may be made of springs, hair, straw, or any approved substance. It is divided at the middle longitudinally in two sections in order to .fold short 5` and the sections are hinged together by a block, F, let into notches Gr in the side pieces of the frame, and the jointed bars H I forining two joints, distant from each other about the thickness of thepart of the mattress above the frame, which allows the part folded over on the other to rise as high as necessary to lie lat on the top of the part on which it folds, as shown in Fig. 2. The legs K may be hinged to the mattress-frame to fold down iiat on the bottom when the bed is folded up., and have shoulders L and stud-pins M for bracing them when supporting the bed; or they may be detachably connected by dovetail notches and tenons, as shown at N, so that they can be readily taken off when the bed is folded up. When folded up the parts will be secured by hooks and eyes P.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination of case A, block F, jointed bars H I, and notches G with a folding-Inattress, as and for the purpose described.
RlUHARD W. FROST.
