Be i known that I, FAY T. Rooenns, a citizen of the United States, residing at emphis, in thecounty ofShelby and btate of Tennessee, have invented new anduseful Improvements in Door-Securing Devices, of which the following is a specificatlon.
This invention relates to door securlng devices and more particularly to that type which are employed for securing refrigerator and ice box doors.
The principal object of the invention is to improve upon the structure in use at the present time and to provide a simple and eiiicient device which will automatically look or secure the door when the door is closed and which may be conveniently operated.
A. further object of the invention is to provide a device of this character with a spring actuated locking lever and a keeper of such character as to automatically throw the locking lever into. position whereby a spring for actuating the lever will throw the same behind the shoulder on the keeper as the door is closed, thereby automatically locking the same.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the following description is read in connection with the accompanying drawing, which forms a part of this application, and in which Figure 1 is a front elevation.

Referring more particularly to the drawing, 1 represents the door jamb of a refrigerator and 2 the door therefor. Secured to the door in any suitable manner is a plate 8 having rising or extending outwardly therefrom a pair of separated or spaced lugs i in which is journaled an aXle 5 having secured upon one end a beveled gear 6 and upon the opposite end the operating or looking lever 7. The axle 5 carries a pinion or toothed segment 8 which meshes with the rack tooth 9 on the top of the spring casing 10, slidably mounted vertioallyof the door through or between the lugs 4. The casing 10 is held upon the plate 3 by the pinion 8 and is normally forced in one direction by the spring 11 which has one end abutting one end of the casing and the opposite end abut- S ecification of Letters Patent.

The outer end of the lever 7 which is keyed upon the shaft 5 is provided with a laterally extending stud 13 upon which is mounted a roller 14 held in position by the head 15. This roller is adapted to engage the keeper as will be more fully explained hereinafter.
Secured to the jamb 1 is the keeper which consists of an attaching plate 15 which has integrally formed thereon a keeper hook 16 whose inner wall is provided with a cam 17 and its outer edge is inclined, as shown at 18. The rib 19 alined with the hook forms with the hook a groove or channel 20 for the passage of the roller.
Journaled in the boss 21 extending laterally from the plate is an operating shaft 22 which is squared on one end to receive the operating handle. Thisoperating handle carries an integral beveled toothed segv ment 24 which meshes with the beveled tooth segment 6 keyed upon the squared end of the shaft 25. The opposite end of the shaft 22 is threaded for a considerable ortion of its length so as to permit the handle 25 to be threaded thereon so as to accommodate the lock to thick or thin doors. The threaded end of the shaft is provided with a key-way 26 and the handle 27 is similarly provided so as to receive a locking key whereby the same may be secured to the shaft in anyposition of its adjustment.
lVhen either of the handles 23 or 27 is depressed the segment 24 meshing with the segment 6 will cause the rotation of the shaft 25. By this it will be seen that the pinion 8 meshing with the rack bar will contract the spring 11 at the same time turning the lever arm 7 so as to carry the roller out of the channel 20. Upon closing the door the roller will engage the incline 18 and saidincline will shift the lever, turning the pinion 8 and moving the casing 10 against the tension of the spring. Immediately upon passing the' end of the incline the spring will act to throw the roller into the member and means operated by the rack member for throwing the lever into engagement with the keeper.

In a door securer, a hooked cam keeper, a spring actuated rack member carried by the door, a lever arranged to engage the keeper, means operating by the rack member for actuating the lever to engage the keeper and means for turning the lever out of engagement with the keeper against the tension of the spring.
3. In a door securer, the combination with a cam hook keeper, a plate carried by the door, a shaft journaled on the plate and carrying a pinion, a spring actuated rack member engaged with the pinion, a lever carried by the shaft and arranged to engage the keeper, a handle shaft journaled in the plate at right angles to the first shaft and carrying handles and operative connecting means between the first and second shafts.
4. In a door securer, the combination with a cam hook keeper, of a plate secured to the door and having legs extending therefrom, a shaft journaled in the lugs and carrying a lever arranged to engage the keeper, means normally acting to rotate the shaft in one direction, a shaft journaled in the plate at right angles to the first-named shaft and carrying handles and means connecting the first and second shafts. 5. A door securer comprising a cam hook member, a plate carried by the door having lugs extending therefrom, a shaft journaled in the lugs and carrying a pinion, aspring actuated rack casing slidably mounted between the lugs and engaged with the pinion, a handle actuated shaft journaled in the plate at right angles to the first shaft and segmental gears connecting the first and second shafts.
6. In a door securer, the combination with a cam hook keeper having a lever actuated incline, a plate secured upon the door and having lugs extending therefrom, a shaft journaled in the lugs and carrying a keeper engaging lever, a pinion, a casing slidably mounted between said lugs and carrying a rack arranged to engage the shaft, a spring for actuating the casing in a directionto throw the lever into engagement with the keeper, a shaft journaled in the plate at right angles to the first shaft passing through the door, a handle secured to one end of the shaft, a second handle adjustably secured to the opposite end of the shaft and a gear connection between the first and second shafts, said incline arranged to shift the lever automatically against the tension of the spring when the door is closed and said spring adapted to throw the lever into engagement with the cam of the keeper after the incline is passed.
