INVENTOR ATTORNEY UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN S. LEYERER, 0F SAGINAW, MICHIGAN.
SUPPORT FOR HOSE-NOZZLES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 29, 1921.
Application filed October 8, 1920. Serial No. 415,498.
T 0 aZZ whom it may concern:
l Be it known that I, JOHN S. LEYERER, at,
citizen of the United States, residing atll, Saginaw, In the county of Saginaw and State of Michigan, have 1nvented certain,
appertains to make and use the same. l
This invention relates to supports for hose nozzles and pertains more particularly toan a hose nozzle support that is simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, durable and capable of permitting a hose nozzle to be supported and held at any desired angle, horizontally or vertically, the adjustment in the horizontal plane being upon a" swiveled standard secured in the ground and the adjustment in the vertical plane being automatically produced by a spring actuated locking device that securely holds the nozzle in its adjusted position.
l Vith the foregoing and certain other obj sets in view which will appear later in the specification, my invention comprises the devices described and claimed and the equivalents thereof.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view, broken away in part, showing a nozzle support of my improved construction.
Fig, 2 is a side-elevation of the support with the hose nozzle engaged adjustments in a vertical plane being indi sated by dotted lines.
Fig. 3 is an end view of the parts shown in 2, with the device locked in an adjusted position.
Fig. 4e is a similar view, showing the parts in the same adjusted position, but unlocked.
AF} is clearly shown in the drawings, the ('icvice consists in a pin or standard 1, upon which may be secured a supporting disk 2 adapted to act as a stop, upon the surface of the ground, when the pin 1 is pushed in. 3 is a yoke swiveled to the upper end of pin 1, and is provided with upwardly extending lugs 4 and 5; one of these lugs, as 4, carrying a projecting pin 6 adapted to engage perforations 7 in one side 8 of a swiveled U-shaped bracket 9, upon which is carried a suitable hose-nozzle engaging member 10.
therein, various The sides 8, 8 are pivoted by means of a pintle 11 to the lugs 4 and 5. The distance ,oetween the sides 8, 8 is greater than the ldistance between the lugs 4 and 5, and in jthe endwise clearance so produced is mounted a spring 12, which may be secured either to the lug 5 or the side 8 as desired. The
function of this spring is to normally keep the lug 4 and the side 8 in contact, as in Fig. 3, so that the pin 6 will engage one of the holes 7 and thus removably lock the two lugs in their relatively adjusted position. To unlock them and change the direclmproved article of manufacture comprislng' tion of the hose nozzle in a vertical plane, it is only necessary to squeeze together the lug 5 and side 8, thus compressing the spring, moving the bracket 9 slightly lengthwise the pintle l1 and releasing the pin 6 from the opening 7 then reentering the pin in another hole.
Upon the pintle 11 is preferably mounted a sleeve 13 to act as a spacer for the lugs d and 5.
By the means above described I have produced a simple and inexpensive hose-nozzle support that can be readily adjusted to any vertical position without the use of tools or wrenches, and can be easily swung to any desired horizontal position. It can be manu factured at small expense and constitutes useful and novel article of manufacture.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Pat out is:
In a device of the character described, a pin, a yoke secured to the upper end of said pin, said yoke formed with upwardly extending lugs, a laterally projecting pin se cured to one of said lugs, a spring secured to the other of said lugs, a U-shaped bracket with a pair of downwardly projecting sides, a pintle carried by said lugs and slidingly and rotatably engaged by said sides, one of said sides formed with a plurality of holes adapted to receive said projecting pin 1n various adjusted positions of said bracket, and a hose-nozzle holder carried by said bracket, for the purposes set forth.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN S. LEYERER. Witnesses:
