ANCHOR.
Application filed July 2,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EvAmsT GoonREAU, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Cordova, Territory of Alaska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Anchors, of which the following is a specification.
My invention is an improvement in anchors, and has for its object to provide an anchor having a stem and flukes pivoted thereto and arranged to fold in substantial parallelism with the stem, or in positions radial thereto, and having means for locking said flukes in expanded position.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a side view of the improved anchor closed, with parts in section,
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the anchor open,
Fig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 2, i
Fig. 4 is a front view of a portion of the stem.
In the present embodiment of the invention, the improved anchor consists oi a stem 1. having a reduced portion 2 intermediate its ends, and a cross 3 is connected with one end oi the stem. A cross 4: is mounted to slide on the reduced portion, and the flukes 5 of the anchor are pivoted to the arms of the cross 3.
Spreaders 6 connect the flukes near their pivoted ends with the ends of the cross 4;, and a tubular member 7 is mounted to slide on the stem toward and from the cross 3 for expanding and contracting the flukes, this tubular member being connected with the cross 4.
This tubular member 7 has an enlargement or grip at the end remote from the crosses, and a shackle 8 is pivoted to that end of the stem remote from the flukes by Specification of Letters Patent.

means of a pin 9. A second pin 10 is adapted to pass through an opening in the stem, to hold the tubular member with the flukes extended.
The anchor is supported by usual chains or the like, engaging the shackle 8. When the fiukes are folded as shown in Fig. 1, the anchor may be stored in small space, and it it not unwieldy or bulky as is the usual anchor. The improved anchor is especially de signed for motor boats. It will be understood that the arrangement is such that the flukes open of their own weight.
1. An anchor comprising a stem having a reduced portion intermediate its ends, a stationary cross fixed, to one end of said stein, a movable cross mounted to slide on the re duced portion oi said stem, fluke arms pivoted to the stationary cross, spreader-s pivotally connected at one end to the movable cross and at the other end to the fluke arms intermediate their ends, a tubular member slidably mounted on the stem and connected with the movable cross for spreading and contracting the fluke arms, and means for holding the flukes extended comprising a pin carried by the stem and engageable with the tubular member.
2. .An anchor comprising a stem having a reduced portion intermediate its ends. a stationary cross fixed to one end of said stem, a movable cross mounted to slide on the reduced portion of said stem, fluke arms pivoted to the stationary cross, Spreaders pivotally connected at one end to the movable cross and at the other end to the fluke arms intermediate their ends, and a tubular member slidably mounted on the stem and connected with the movable cross for spread ing and contracting the fluke arms.
