Description

W. B. WENLOCK AND W. A; MARTIN.
ANCHOR. AFPLICATIONFILED SEPT-l8, 1920 Patented Mar. 22, 1921.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER BENJAMIN WENLOCK, O BRIGI-ITLINGSEA, AND WILLIAM ALEXANDER MARTIN, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
ANCHOR.
Specification of Letters Patent. Patented Mar. 22, 1921.
Application filed September 18, 1920. Serial No. 411,170.
2 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that we, l/VALTER BENJAMIN lVnNLooK and VVILLIAM ALEXANDER MAR- TIN, subjects of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at The Anchorage, lirightlingsea, and 59 Buckingham Gate, London, S. IV. 1, Essex, England, respectively, have invented new and useful Improvements in or Relating to Anchors, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to anchors of the type in which the stock is slidably mounted on the shank and held in position by a key or wedge and the fiukes are made in two parts each pivotally connected to the shank and adapted to be locked in the open and closed positions. The object of thls invention is to provide an improved anchor of this type.
In the improved anchor according to this invention the parts are so disposed that the liukes and the stock are locked to the shank, in the folded position, by means of a single locking device.
Figure 1. is an elevation of an anchor made in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a side elevation;
The flukes a a are pivotally connected to the shank at b and are provided with two holes 0 0, one of which is adapted to register with holes d in the shank when the linkes are in the open 01' closed position. The Iiukes are provided with stops c c which butt on to the shank when the flukcs are in the open position. The shank is formed in one piece from end to end and is provided with an eye f at each end.
The stock 9 is provided with a shoulder 7t and an eye 7'. The stock is held in the open position by a key is, which passes through the stock. The stock is adapted to be drawn through the shank and folded down. A pin m chained to the shank l) is adapted to be passed through holes (Z in the shank, and corresponding holes 0 in the flukes and the hole 7' in the stock when the stock is in its stowed position the pin m being employed to hold both flukes open, or one open and one closed the last mentioned position being useful when the anchor is to be used for moving purposes. The pin on is locked in position by a split pin a or the pin m may be screwed at one end and locked in position by a nut.
What we claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is In an anchor, in combination, a shank, flukes foldably disposed near one end of the latter, holes near the said end of the shank, holes in the foldable flukes registering with the said holes in the shank in the folded po sition, an opening near the other end of the shank, a stock sliding in said opening, means for securing the stock in open position, a bend in thestock at one end adapted to enter the said opening in the shank to allow the stock to be folded down, an eye at the other end of the stock registering with said holes in the shank and fiukes in the folded position of the parts, and a pin adapted to pass through the said holes and eye to secure the shank, flakes, and stock together in folded osition.
In testimony whereof we have signed our names to this specificatlon.
WALTER BENJAMIN WENLOCK. WILLIAM ALEXANDER MARTIN.
