Description

Sept. 28y 1926.
J. BRIGHOUSE 'SHACKLE Filed NOV. 13, 1925 f MW Patented Sept. 28,
PATENT .orticaI JAMES BRIGHOUSE, OF ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND.
SHACKLE.
Application filed November 13, N25, Serial No.
The subject of the invention is a shackle operative relationshipa the arrangement heing such that the boss and socket prevent the load on the hoolnrnemhers from being trinsi'nitted to the screw. y
l'n the accompanying drawing Fig. l is a plan showing the shackle in open position, 'O'. 2 a plan showing the shacklev in closed position Fig. 3 a side elevation, Fig. 4 an end elevation and Eig. a section on the line 1 -1 of Fig. 2.
The shackle shown comprises two comple- "i itarv hook-members l, 2 each of approxiinat `-shape having extremities la, QF und pivotally connected at about the centre in scissors fashion.
The pivotal connection of the hook-memiers is constituted by a hollow screwrhreaded boss 3 projecting inwardly from the hook-member 2 and engaging a socket 4 in the hook-member l, and a binding screw eseas, and in Great Britain November 17, 1924.
5 i'or holding the boss 3 and the socket Il in operative relationship, the arrangement being such that loads imposed on the hookniembers are not transmitted to the screw 5.
Spring-pressed. latches 6 cooperate with recesses i to lock the hook-members in the closed position.
A shacklej of the sister-hook type, comprising two complementary hook-members one of which has a hollow screw-threaded boss and formed with latch-receiving reeesses and the other of which has a corresponding socket engaged by the boss to form a pivot, a binding screw entering said boss and serving to hold said hook-members in operative relationship, said screw being thus free of loads imposed on said hook-members, and spring-pressed latches housed in the second named hook-member and engageable with said recesses, to lock the hook-members in closed position.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification.
