' sonori-Hammock.
Lerares.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, LEO STEINFELD, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of N ew York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Couch-Hammocks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to couch hammocks, and one of the objects of the invention is to provide an improved connection between the ends, and the backbar from which the windshield is suspended, whereby the backbar may be readily supported in any one of a number of different positions.
Other objects and aims of the invention, more or less broad than those stated above, together with the advantages inherent, will be in part obvious and in part specifically referred to in the course of the following description of the elements, combinations, arrangements of parts, and applications of principles constituting the invention; and the scope of protection contemplated will appear from the claims.
In the accompanying drawings, which are to be taken as a part of this specificationand in which I have shown an embodiment of the invention as at present preferred, Figure 1 is a view in perspective with parts broken away, showing the construction between the backbar and the ends of the hammock, in `which the backbar has a pivotal relation to the ends of the hammock, and showing two of the positions of the backbar in full and dotted lines; Fig. 2 is a detail perspective, illustrating some of the subject-matter of Fig. 1, and with the backbar shown in two other of its positions by full and dotted lines respectively; and Fig. 3 is a detail of the end of the backbar.
Referring to the numerals on the drawings, I have illustrated a couch hammock comprising the usual suspending hook 11, clue cords 12, flexible ends 14, mattress 16, valance 17, and backbar 18, having connected thereto a windshield 19.
For the purpose of making the back bar adjustable to various pivotal positions, and to positions at opposite sides of the couch hammock, I have shown the backbar 18 connected at each end to a crank 31, each crank passing through and pivoted to a strap 32 on one end of the back bar, and having its Specification of Letters Patent. Pgmdgmjjgdj Maro 299 1921 Application led ctober 19, 1914. Serial No. 867,279.
other end pivoted in the end bars 84. On each flexible end 14, below the end bar 34, there are four hooks 35, which are adapted to support the crank 31. In Fig. 1, the b a'ckbar is supported in the windshield position on one side of the hammock, while in dotted lines in the same figure, the backbar is supported in back-rest position on the same side of the hammock. In Fig. 2, the backbar is shown in back-rest position at the opposite side of the hammock from that shown in Fig. 1, while in dotted lines it is shown in the corresponding windshield position. In coming from either one of the positions indicated in Fig. 1 to one of the positions indicated in Fig. 2, the backbar will .of course have to be turned over, and this is permitted by the form of connection shown in Fig. 3, by reason of which the backbar is pivotally movable upon the ends of the cranks 31.
Inasmuch as many changes could be made in the above construction, and many apparently widely different embodiments of my invention could be made without departing from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is also to be understood that the language used in the following claims is intended to cover all the generic and specilic features of the invention herein described and all statement of the scope of the invention which, as a matter of language, might be said to fall therebetween.
I claim:
1. In a device of the kind described, end members each including a flexible end piece and a rigid end bar at the upper end there'- of, a rigid back bar arranged between the end members and having depending therefrom a flexible windshield, a crank journaled at one end in the rigid end bar and pivotally attached at its opposite end to the rigid back bar, and a plurality of supporting members arranged on opposite ends of the end members for supporting the back bar in various adjusted positions.
2. In a device of the kind described, end members each including a flexible end piece and a rigid end bar at the upper end thereof, a rigid back bar arranged between the other for supporting the back bar in variend members and having depending thereous adjusted positions. 10 from a iexble windshield, a Crank jour- In testimony whereof I aiifx my signature naled at one end in the rigid end bar and in presence of two Witnesses.A k
