1 Claim.

This invention relates to hammock stands of the foldable or collapsible type, the primary object of the invention being to provide a hammock stand which may be folded into a small and compact article for convenience in storing, due consideration having been given to the strength and durability of the stand.

An important object of the invention is to provide a hammock stand embodying a pair of pivotally connected frames, connected in such a way that the side members of the frame form the supporting arms for the stand, as well as the leg portions of the stand, novel means being provided for permitting the frames to tilt outwardly providing an exceptionally rigid stand.

With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claim, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.

Referring to the drawings:

Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional View through the stand.

Fig. 2 is a plan view thereof, the hammock being shown as suspended by the stand.

Fig. 3 is a plan View of the frame in a semifolded position.

Fig. 4 is a sectional view illustrating the stand in its completely folded position.

Fig. 5 is a sectional View taken on line 5--5 of Fig. 3.

Referring to the drawings in detail, the hammock stand embodies a pair of

frames

5 and 6, each frame embodying members i, certain of which have enlarged upper ends 8 through which the U-bolts 9 extend, the U-bolts of the side members of each frame being interlocked, to permit of lateral pivotal movement of the side members with respect to each other, and at the same time affording means for firmly securing the outer ends of the side members together.

One of the side members of each frame is formed with a recess disposed adjacent to one of the U-bolts in which the plate ii! is held by means of the U-bolt, the plates being formed with hooks N that are disposed outwardly with respect to the frames, and over which the rings I 2 of the hammock B3 are positioned, to swing the hammock on its stand.

The side members i of the cooperating frame sections are pivotally connected at M, the ends of the side members '5 extending beyond the pivot points l4, constituting leg sections l 5.

The side members i of the frame are formed with pins l6, constituting stops, the pins of one frame section engaging the side members of the adjacent frame section, restricting vertical movement of the sections with respect to each other, thereby holding the frames in their proper supported positions.

The reference character l'l indicates a chain which has its ends connected to the side members of one of the frames, at points adjacent to the pivots id, so that lateral movement of the side members of the frames at one side of the stand, will be limited with respect to the side members of the frame at the opposite side of the stand, beyond a certain point.

From the foregoing, it will be seen that due to the construction shown and described, I have provided a hammock stand which may be readily and easily folded to facilitate transportation or storage thereof, the stand being such that it may be readily extended for supporting a hammock.

Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:

In a hammock stand, a pair of frames, each frame comprising side members, said side members of th cooperating frames being pivotally connected at points intermediate their ends, providing lower legs members and upper hammock supporting arms, enlargements formed at the outer ends of the hammock supporting arms, interlocking U-bolts secured to the enlar ements and extending inwardly therefrom, pivotally and tiltably connecting the outer ends of the hammock supporting arms, hook plates secured to the outer ends of the hammock supporting arms to which a hammock is secured, and means for restricting pivotal movement of the side members of one frame with respect to the side members of the opposite frame.
