This invention relates to improvements in beds, an object of the invention being to provide a bed which will give readily with the weight of an occupant and which will be exceedingly comfortable and yielding in use..v

A further object is to provide a bed in which the spring and mattress, instead of being supported .upon the side bars o12 a stationary bed-frame. are supported on a frame suspended from a crossbar attached to the head and foot pieces of the stationary bed-frame; and springl are employed in the suspension means so tnat the mattrs means of nuts 14 `located under the frame around the lower threaded ends yof the rods. Gotterpns 14 may be provided through the rods 6 under the nuts 11. The frame l() is adapted to lit rather snugly within the side bars 5 of the frame 1 so that there can be lno lateral swinging movement of the frame 2 within the trame 1. invention consists in certain novel featuresu of construction and combinations and ar rangements of parts as will be more l-ully hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

My improved bed comprises two jframes 1 and 2, the trame 1 being stationary and comprising head and foot-pieces 3 and 4, respectively. The head and foot-pieces 3 and 45 are of the same height and have side bars 5 connecting them. The head-piece 3 and the foot-piece 4t are formed preferably of inverted U-shaped rods or standards 6 with transverse bars 7 connecting the lparallel leg members thereof. Any preferred arrangement of ornamental bars 13 may be employed in connection with the bars 7. The frame 2 is shorter and narrower than the frame 1 and is suspended within the frame 1. The frame 2 also comprises head and loot-piecesB and 9, respectively, formed of inverted U-shapcd rods 6 with crossbars connecting them, and a rectangular frame 10 is secured to the lower ends ot' the rods 6. The rodsl 6 project through the frame 10 and are secured to the rameby curedato arplate 20. The plate 2O is perforated at its center to receive an weyebolt 21, the eye portion of the bolt being on the Y underside or' the plate. A nut 22 is screwed on to the upper end of the bolt 21, and acoil spring 23 is located around the bolt 21 between the nut 22 and the plate 20. A cotter pin 22- may be positioned through the bolt 21 to prevent accidental displacement of the nut 22.

Another horizontal bar 24 extends through the eye of bolt 21 and at its ends supports the head and foot-pieces of the frame 2, the bar 24 being recessed, as shown at 25, to engage the head and foot-pieces 8 and 9 of the Yframe 2. I At each end of the bar 24 a clevis or similar securing device 25 is located around the bar 24 and member 6 to obviate any danger of the accidental dis placement of the ba-r 24. T he bar 24 is also recessed at its center portion, -as shown at 26, to prevent longitudinal movement of the barwithin the eyebolt 21.

lVith this construction the bed is not only cushioned b v the ordinary bedsprings 11 but also by the springs 19 and 23 used in the suspension-of the frame 2. It is of course, to be understood, that the springs 19 and 23 are strong enough to prevent any very material depression of the frame 2 when an oc cupant is in the bed, although they do afford a notceabl cushioning means.

Various Slight.. hanges and alterations might be made in the general form ot the parts without departing from my invention, and hence, I do not limit myselic to the precise details set fort-h but consider myselt at liberty to make such slight changes and alterations as fairly fall within the spirit and scope of the appended claims.

I claim: l

1. A bed comprising an outer stationary frame, inverted U-shaped standards at each end thereof7 a longitudinal bar supported on the intermediate portion of said standards and extending beyond said standards,depend ing enlargements on said bar limiting its longitudinal movement, hangers onthe ends of said bar, links connecting the hangers with.

the ends of coil springs, said springs having their other ends located 1n a metal plate, an eyebolt extending through a centrally disposed opening in said plate with the eye portion of the bolt on the underside of said plate, a nut secured to the end of said bolt, a coil spring around the bolt between the nut and the plate, a longitudinal bar extending through said eyebolt. an inner framev suspended from said last-mentioned bar` said bar having recesses therein adjacent its ends to accommodate the end members ol said inner frame, and said bar having a centrally located recess` therein adapted to prevent longitudinal movement olV` the bar within the eyebolt.

2. The combination with a stationary bed frame and a longitudinal bar supported on the head and ioot pieces of said l'rame. ol a suspension bed frame. a longitrulina] har supporting the head and l'oot pieces of said suspension frame, elastic devices connecting the ends of the first nnfntioned bar with the intermediate portion of the last n'ientioned bar, said devices comprising hangers at each end ol the lirst mentioned bar` links secured to the hangers.r coil springs secured to the links, a plate secured to the springs, and a spring held eye bolt mounted in the plate and supporting said other bar.
