CHAIR on THE LIKE;
Specification of Letters Patent. Patnted }Ia,r..22, 1921. I
Application filed April 10, 1920.. Serial No. 372,751.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KARL BUCHBERGER, a citizen of the United States, residin at Albany, in the county of Albany and of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Chairs or the like, of which the'following is a specifica-v tion.
The present invention relates to chairs or the like, and consists in a novelconstruction of the means for fastening the legs in posi.-- tion, so that repairs may be readilymade, without the necessity for're'moving the seat or upholstery. I
My invention will be clearly understood from the detailed description by reference to the accompanying drawing'in which similar characters denote corresponding parts and in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of a chair equipped with my improvement; Fig. 2 is a top plan view ofa corner of the frame carrying the seat, showing the attachment of the legs thereto; Fig. 3' is \an inner View of said corner and Figs. 4 to 8 are details of the tightening means.
In the drawing a denotes the seat of the chair carried by a frame composed of Wooden bars a to the inner faces of which are fixed by screws -f corner pieces 03. In
the free corner spaces between the adjacent ends of the bars the legs I) are fitted.
Usually the legs I) are glued or otherwise stationarily fixed to said bars. struction has been foundto be objectionable, for the reason that when a leg becomes loose or detached it necessitates the removal of theseat, upholstery or both to enable repairs.
To obviate this drawback, I provide the is provided in each leg I) in extension of sai bore at. These bores 6 d serve for tate Such conouter end with a head 6' and adapted to project outwardly with its threaded rear end from the corner piece at to receive a, nut g.
The nut g is provided with prongs g which on tightening the screw bolt cut into the.
wooden corner piece and holdthe nut from turning. The front end of the bore b of each leg I) may be reinforced by a' metal mouth piece It formed with an angular 0blong base h which is countersunk in a (:orres ondin ly shaped groove 6 of the leg.
y sue construction the legs can be clamped tightly in position and are not liable to become loose.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a chair, a'seat frame composed of side bars having. bores in their end faces,
- corner pieces bearing with-their sides on and 2. In. a chair, the combination with side;
bars, of corner pieces fixed to the inner faces of adjoining bars, legs fitted in the outer corners between'adjoining bars and engaged therewith, headed bolts assed through the legs and the correspon ing corner pieces, nuts workin on the inner face of said bolts and adapte when tightened to become locked to the corner pieces and metallicsockets coun'tersunkin the legs and accommodating the heads of said bolts.
whereof I aflix my signature In testimony in presence of two witnesses.
KARL BUCHBERGER.
Witnesses:
MAX D. ORDMANN,
JOSEPH T. MoMAHo'N.
