State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Collar- Bands for Shirts, of which the following is a specification.

The present invention relates to an improved collar band for shirts, and more particularly the aresent improvements'consist in providing permanent collar buttons in connection with the shirt band,

"With the present type of shirt bands and detachable collar buttons in use, the wearer is subjected to much inconvenience and annoyance. Principally because of the necessity of having to continually remove and in-. sert the collar buttons, and through accidents or neglect, these collar buttons very often become lost, are not removed from the shirt when the same is sent to tl e laundry, and where new collar buttons are not always available, thewearer is put to co siderable inconvenience. l ilso the collar button holes in the shirt very soon become enlarged, and as a result, the collar button 0 r not Q erly retained in the shirt, citl such extent as to change the collar, or else coming out of th I Furthermore the backs of the coll. tons are exposed, and in Contact with the neck of the wearer, which is both uncom- Iortable and dangerous, because of the danger of blood poisoning.

Referring to the drawings, the collar band constructed according to the present embodi ment of my invention comprises a front layer of material 10 folded longitudinallyupon itself to form an inner layer 11 a marginal portion 12 being folded over upon the layer 11. A small circular button hole or eyelet 13 is worked at the point where it is desired to place a collar button, this button hole extending through both thicknesses of the front layer, and being substantially reinforced by button hole stitching 14.

The collar button comprises a base 15, slightly greater than a sem1-c1rcle, a stem or shank 16 extending from the circ'umfen ential center of the base and provided at its upper end with a detachable head 17, the said head being preferably provided with threaded extension 18, which engages the Y threaded bore 19 of the stem, although other suitablemeans of attachment may be provided.

In assembling the collar band and collar button, the head 1'7 is removed from the button, and the stem is inserted in the eyelet 13, the base 15 engaging the inner side 11 of the front layer of the collar hand, and having its straight edge 20 parallel with the lower edge of the collar bond.

With the exception of the slightly different form of the rear collar button, which is 'ireieral'aly flat, the construction of the shirt hand at that portion surrounding: the rear collar hutton, is the same as that surrounding the l'ront collar hutton. The front ends of the shirt band are finished in the usual manner as at 28 and 29, and a button hole 30 is pr oridcd in the end of the shirt hand opposed to that containing the collar mutton, and is adopted engngo the collar button.

The hand is attached to the neck of the shirt by inserting the edge 31 of the shirt into the fold formed between the front and rear layers of the hand, and securing it h a row of stitching32, as clearly indicated. in Figs. 9 and 10.

ll ith my improvementg'it will be seen, a. shirt bend provided having porn'iancnt and immovable collar buttons, the stems of which are always maintained in upright position, thereby preventing pressure upon the neck, and the construction of the rear layer of the shirt hand forms a protective pad which prevents contact of the collar hutton with the neck. The invention may, if desired, he used in connection with other garments as for instance military garments.

The collar buttons nniy be formed of any suitable material, such for instance as bone, aluminum, gold, silver, etc, and are prefe -ably of a meterial which will not he affected by moisture.

l have illustrated a preferred and satisfactory embodiment of my invention, but it is obvious that changes may he made therein Within the spirit and scope thereof, as defined in the appended claims.

I claim 1.
