Description

D. MYERS.
SAW SWAGE APPLICATION FILED JUNE 20, 1917.
1,370,547. Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
UNITED DAVID MYERS, OF NEOPIT, WISCONSIN.
SAW-SWAGE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 8, 1921.
Application filed June 20, 1917. Serial No. 175,881.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, DAVID links, a citi Zen of the United States, residing at Neopit, in the county of Shawano and State of Wisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Saw-Swages; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to hich it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in a saw swage, and has for one of its objects the provision of a device of this character, whereby the raker teeth oi a saw may be readily s t or spread by hitting the device with a hammer or other suitable tool.
Another object of this invention is to provide a member having a V-shaped shoulder adapted to e received between the raker teeth. whereby upon hitting the member upon the end thereof, the raker'teeth will he properly set or spread.
A. further object of this invention 1s the prey sion of a flat extension on the member having a slot therein for receiving the cutting teeth or the saw, so that the cutting teeth may be readily set by turning or twisting the member.
A still further object of this invention is the provision of a saw swage of the above stated character, which shall be simple, du rable and efficient, and which may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
lVith these and other objects in view as will hecome more apparent as the description oroeeeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
For a complete understanding of my invention, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure 1 is a plan view of a saw swage constructed in accordance with my invention,
Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same, illustrating it applied to a saw,
Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the same.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 1 indicates an elongated member which constitutes a handle, having formed upon one end thereof a flat extension 2 with an enlarged head 3 having a key-hole slot 1 for receiving the cutting teeth of a saw, whereby upon twisting or turning the handle 1, the cutting teeth of the saw may be readily set.
The extension 2, being formed upon the member or handle 1, provides a shoulder of V-shaped formation, as illustrated at 5; and is adapted to be received between the raker teeth 6 of the saw, as illustrated in Fig. 2. By hitting upon the end of the member or handle 1 the shoulder 5 spreads or stretches the raker teeth to the proper degree, as illus trated in Fig. 2.
The end A of the member or handle 1 is provided with a beveled face 7 for forming an anvil, whereby the cutting teeth of a saw may be placed. thereon and struck with a hammer or other suitable tool for setting said teeth. The end A is of suflicient thickness to provide a driving head for the device I when being used as a swage.
lVhile I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, it will be understood that minor changes in construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be made without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention what I claim is:
A saw swage comprising a handle reduced in thickness at one end to provide a swaging shoulder having inclined sides and to provide a long supporting element eXtendwholly beyond said shoulder, said supporting element being of greater length and width than the raker tooth of a saw and having a fiat fa ce adapted to lie in full abutting engagement with the tooth being swaged and with the blade of the saw immediately adjacent the inner end of the tooth to prevent the tooth from buckling during the swaging operation and to prevent the tilting of: the swage during such operation.
In testimony whereof I ailix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
DAVID MYERS. lVitnesses:
E. G. OASSAFORD. N. N. GAMBLE.
