LOUIS JOSEPH DUMAINE, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
ELECTRIC HAIR-SINGER.
To all whomz'tma concern:
Be it known t at I, Lotus Josnrn DU- MAINE, a British subject, hair-dresser, residing at No. 62 St. Lawrence street, in the city of Montreal, in the Province of Quebee, in the Domlnion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric Hair-Singers; and I'do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
The present invention relates to an electric hair singer and the main object of this invention is to provide a device that is electrically heated for the purpose of singeing the hair.
Another object is to rovide a device of this character that will e simple andcheap to manufacture.
To better understand the present invention reference should be had to the accompanying drawings in which Figure 1 is a plan view of the invention with the cover provided thereon.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the invention the cover being removed.
Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view through the inventlon illustrating the particular means for connecting the heating element to the handle and the switch provided thereon.
Like numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure.
In the drawings 1 is a handle provided centrall i with a longitudinal hole 2, and 3 is a hoo secured at one end b any suitable means to said handle 1. A jacent one end of said'handle is provided a hole 4 which communicates with said hole 2. One end of said handle is also provided with an external thread 5 on which the hollow elongated cover 6 is removably fitted. The longitudinal central hole 2 is preferably provided at one end with an enlarged threaded portion 7 in which is fitted one end of the porcelain core 8.
The said core 8 preferably consists of an elon ated cylindrical or rod-like porcelain mem er having a plurality of longitudinal grooves 9 which terminate adjacent its threaded end in holes 10 adapted to communicate with the central hole 2. Around said core 8 is wound a resistance wire 11 which projects through said holes 10 inside said longitudinal hole 2, said wire 11 bein preferably connected to a suitable source 0 Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 8,1921.
Application filed April 24, 1920. Serial no; 376,360.
electrical energy transmitted by the wires 12 WhlCh pass through said longitudinal hole 2.
On one of said wires, 12 is provided a suitable switch 13 which projects through the hole 4 provided in said handle.
The invention above described is adapted to replace the usual candle used in singeing the hair and will prove very effective and always read ---to serve the purpose. When not in use t e cover 6 is put on to protect the heating element.
What I claim as my invention is:
1; An electric hair singer, comprising a handle formed with a longitudinal bore opening .therethrough at opposite ends; a core of non-conducting material fixed at one end in said bore and provided at said end with openings which lead into the bore; a resistance element Wound around the core and having its terminals extending through said openings into said bore; electric conductors extending through the other end of the bore and connected to the terminals of the resistance element; and means for controlling the current fiow from said conductors to said resistance element.
2. An electric hair singer, comprising a handle formed with a longitudinal bore opening therethrough at opposite ends and with a transverse hole intersecting said bore adjacent one end thereof; a core of nonconducting material fixed at one end in said bore and provided at said end with openings which lead into the bore; a resistance element carried by said core and having its terminals extending through said openings into said bore; electric conductors extending through the other end of the bore and connected to the terminals of the resistance element; and a switch movably mounted in said transverse hole for controlling the current flow from said conductors to said resistance element.
3. An electric hair singer, comprising a handle formed with a longitudinal bore which opens through the opposite ends of the handle and is enlarged at one end, the corresponding end of the handle being externall threaded; a cylindrical core of nonconducting material fitted at one end in the enlarged end of the bore and formed at said end with openings leading into said bore; a resistance element wound around said core and having its terminals extending through said openings into said bore; electric conductors extending through the other end of said bore and connected to the terminals of the resistance element; and a material attached to one end of the handle in axial alinement therewith; a resistance elementwound around said core; currentsupply nieans carried by said handle and connected to said resistance element; and a cylindrical cover fitting over the core and its resistance element and removably engaged with the adjacent end of the handle.
5. In an electric hair singer, the combination of a handle formed with a bore; an elongated core of non-conducting material fixed in one end of said bore and formed with external longitudinal grooves which open at their inner ends through the corresponding end of the core to provide communication with the handle bore; a resistance element attached to the core and having its terminals directed throu h the open inner ends of said core grooves into said bore; and current-supply means fitted in said'bore and connected to said terminals.
6. In an electric hair singer, the combi nation of a handle formed with a bore; an elongated core of non-conducting material fixed in one end of said bore-and formed with external longitudinal grooves which open at their inner ends through the corresponding end of the core to provide communication With the handle bore; a resistance element attached to the core and having its terminals directed through the open inner ends of said core grooves into said bore; current supply means fitted in said bore and connected to said terminals; and a cover fitting over the core and its resistance element and removably engaged With the adjacent end of the handle.
