PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS JOSEPH DUMAINE, OF MONTREAL, QUEBEC, CANADA.
ELECTRIC HAIR SINGER.
Application filed July 14, 1928. Serial No. 292,794.
The present invention relates to improvements in an electric hair singer, which is hereinafter fully described and claimed. and is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a plan View of a hair singer according to the invention, and,
Figure 2 is a longitudinal sectional view, one section of the handle having been removed.
The main object in this invention to provide a hair singer which is electrically heated, and in which the heating element may readily be removed like a lamp in a socket, and replaced by a new one, should it burn out.
Another object is to provide a device of this character that will be most simple in construction, and cheap to manufacture.
Referring to the drawings 1 is a handle comprising two hollow longitudinal sections, one end 2 of which is enlarged to form a socket adapted to receive the removable core 3 carrying the heating element. The two sections 1 of the handle are secured together by means of the screws 4, and 5 are holes in each of said enlarged portion. 2.
The element carrying member or core 3, consists of an elongated porcelain member centrally bored at 6, having an enlarged base portion 7 which is adapted to co-act with the socket 2. The outer periphery oi"- the memher 3 is threaded to receive a resistance wire 8 which is wound upon said thread surface, passing at one end through the aperture 10 in the base 7, and at its other end passing through the hole 9 adjacent the outer end of said member 3, into the hollow portion 6. Both ends of said resistance wire 8 are suitably connected to their respective poles 11 and 12, carrying the outwardly projecting arms 13 and 14 which are adapted to engage the fixed contact members 15 and 16, and thus securing in firm position the core 3.
The contact members 15 and 16 are secured to the block 17, mounted in the inner end 01 the socket 2, by means of the screws 18 and 19 which project through said block. Upon said block is mounted the bracket 20, and 21 is the switch operated by the push member 21 whichis slidably mounted in said bracket, and the said switch member carries the sliding contact member 22, which co-acts with the screw 19.
The electrical energy is supplied by means of the electrical conductors 23 and 2 1 which are respectively connected to the screw 18 and the sliding contact member 22.
The electrical circuit is as follows when the switched member is operated. The energy passes from the conductor 23 through the screw 18, the contact member 16, the screw 19, the sliding contact member 22, the conductor 2d. Both conductors pass through a suitable opening 25 in the end of the handle and are connected to any suitable source of electrical energy.
What I claim as my invention is 1-- An electric hair singer compr ing a handle having a socket formed at one end, a removable core of non-conducting material adapted to engage in said socket means to secure said core in said socket a resistance element wound around the core having its terminals connected to said securing means of said core, electric conductors adapted to be connected to said securing means 01 said core, and means on said handle for controlling the current flow from said conductors to said resistance element.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this 5th day of July, 1928.
LOUIS JOSEPH DUMAINE.
