BED-FRAME.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Mar. 1, 1921.
Application led August 28, 1920. Serial No. 406,663.
To @ZZ whom it may concerns Be it known that l, HYMaN GERTLER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, and residing at 129 Colonial avenue, in the city and District of Montreal, in the Providence of Quebec, in the Dominion of Canada, have invented newr and useful Bed-Frame, of which the following is the specification.
rllhe invention relates to bed frames as described in the present specification and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, that form part of the same.
The invention consists essentially in the novel construction and arrangement of the head and foot frames in relation to the connecting side bars and particular features in respect thereto.
T he objects of the invention are to insure a secure and at the same time, a simple fastening for use between the separable parts of a bed frame; to produce the frames at a moderate cost and thereby reduce theprice of this article to the consumer; and generally to provide a reliable, durable and serviceable structure.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the assembled frame.
Fig. 2 is an enlarged perspective detail of the supporting bracket for the side bars.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view of the aforesaid supporting bracket and the bed frame post. f
Fig. Llis an enlarged perspective detail of the assembled bed post, bracket and end portion of side bar.
Fig. 5 is an enlarged perspective detail of the bracket base. i
Fig. 6 is an enlarged sectional perspective detail of the end portion of a side bar.
Like numerals of reference indicate cor responding parts in each figure.
Referring to the drawings, the frame is made up of the head frame 1, the foot frame 2 and the angle side bars 3, the latter terminating each end in the attached fastening` member formed of the offset plate l, the Oifset 5 being riveted to the downwardly extending section of the side bar 3 on the inner face, while the fastening portion 6 of the plate is distanced from the bar by the rivet pin 7 and is notched at 8 in the lower edge to it over a corresponding pin as more particularly explained hereinafter.
Both the head framel and the foot frame 2 are formed with the posts 9 the rails 10 and the permanent angle cross bars 11.
The bracket bases 12 are each formed with the inset faces 13 and 141 and the vertical grooved back 15.
The bracket bases 12 are iirmly secured to the post 9 by the cap screws or bolts 16. which also extend through the cross bars 11 and one leaf of each bracket 17.
The brackets 17 are formed of the projecting leaf 18 having the notch 19 in the upper edges, corresponding to and receiving the riveted pins 7, and the inwardly projecting pins 2O toward the lower ends corresponding to and entering the notches 8.
This completes this simple fastening and in assembling the parts of the frame the side bars 3 are brought into engagement with the brackets 17, the plate 6 being inserted between the leaf 18 of'a bracket and the end of a cross bar to bring the .pins 7 over the notches 19 and the notches 8 over the pins 20, so that the fastening may be done in a moment.
The ends of the side bars rest on the cross bars of the head and foot frames and the pins in the notches lirmly fasten the parts together.
The bolts 16 in fastening the parts together screw into the tapped plates 21, which are shaped on one side to correspond with the shape of the posts whatever that may be, thus securely locking said bolts in Y a foot frame having posts, rails, and an angular cross bar, bracket bases having inset faces and verticall5T grooved backs fitting said posts, angle brackets vertically set on' said inset faces and having notches and pins in the projecting leaves, screws securing saidV brackets, bracket bases, cross bars and posts together, side bars of angular' formation having one section fitting between the ends of said cross bars and the projecting leaves of said brackets, and plates having offsets secured to said side bars and distanced therefrom to form recesses for said projecting leaves and having notches and pins for fastening purposes.
Signed at Montreal, Quebec, Canada, this 19th day of August, 1920.
