A TTORNEYS.

DOOR HANGER AND'ADJUSTER. 1
Specification of Letters Patent? f Pate11td Mar.1, 1921;
Application filed September 16,1920. Serial No. 4=10,599.
Be it .known that I, EDGAR citizen of the United States, and resident of San Francisco, county of San Francisco,
change in the door frame or wall construe State of California, have invented anewv and useful Door Hanger and Adjuster, ofv
which the following is a specification.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a hanger of the character described which is simple as to construction, in'ex-.
pensive, reliable in use, practically noiseless, capable of being readily andeasily adjusted so that the door may be hung properly in the frame and which may be easily assembled and fitted without necessitating any tion or the provision of special wall and door frame construction. a
Another object of the invention is to provide in a-hanger of the character described novel, effective, easily operable and reliable means for effecting a vertical adjustment in the door after the latter is hung whereby the door will operate properly in the frame. The invention possesses other advantages;
and features, some of which, with the fore going, will be set forth at length in the following description wherein I shall outline in full that form of the invention whichI have selected for illustration in the drawings accompanying and forming a part of the present specification. In said drawings I have shown one form of the construction of my invention but it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to such form, since the invention as expressed in the claims may be embodied in .a plurality of forms.
Referring to the drawings,-Figure 1 is a perspective view broken away and partlyin section of the hanger of this invention;
Fig. 2 is a detail perspective View of the a detail perspective-view of the adjusting nut.
The present embodiment of the invention generally comprises a casing or body (1) which is countersunk in the top of a door G. Morin, a
p shown; 7 This invention relates to improvements in hangers for sliding doors.
(2), means for vertically adjusting the 11001 mo'untedin the casing. and a stra'p hanger (3) attached to the adjusting means and casing and to the walltrack member (4) ers of the wall above the door. frame, not
sheet metal bent :into'U sha e, with the sides (5.) and (6) provided at their upper edge with lateral apertured ears. (7). plate (8)is mounted upon the upper sideof and closes the casing, said plate being provided with) apertures (9) which register with the apertureofgtlie ears (7). One end of the plate (8) is reduced and turned down wardly to provide a flange (10), which partially closes one end of the casing;
NT, orrios.
I which latter is disposed between. the head- Y The casing or body is formed of A cover The casing is countersunk in the uppen edge of the door (2) and held in place'by screws (11) which are inserted through the apertures of the-plate (8) and ears (7).into
the door.; Preferably two hangers are employed for a door and' are' arranged thereon with certain endsfprojecting throughthe vertical edges of thefl'door. The ad usting plate (12) engages the inner face gitu of the plate (8) and is movable lon rotatable in a bearing (14) therefor former in the sides (5), and (6) of'the casing. This screw projects out off one end of the casingso as to abut the flange (10).' This dinally in the casing by screw (13) flange extends only part way over the screw head (14.) and is notched as at (15) oppo site saidhead. to permit of access thereto with a screw driver. The screw is at the end of the casing which is exposed at the edge of the door as shown in Fig. 5 whereby it may be conveniently reached and actuated.
The plate (12) has a slot (16) therein in which the screw turns freely. The slot (16)" is provided on opposite sides and intermediate' of its ends with enlargements (17 in which an angular faced nut (18) is snugly and non-rotatably fitted, said nut bearing on opposite sides in slots 16 in the sides of the casing 1. The screw surrounding portions 17 of the casing 1 are tubular as shown. The screw is turned through the nut and may be rotated tomove the plate (12) longitudinally in either directionv in said casing.
A plate (19) is arranged in the casing 1) so as to move the plate. (12) vertically with the door carried thereby. This plate (19) is provided with a lateral projection (20) which formed in the plate (12). By reasonof...
the projections and slots (21) pre venting longitudinal movement ofthe plate 7 (19), when the plate (12) is adjusted longitudinally the angularprojections (22) are caused to move in the inclined slots so-that the plate (12) moves vertically. I
On the upper edge of the plate (19) is a dovetail projection (24:) fitted in a socket the'upper wall of the hanger a roller (27 (25) therefor in the lower end of the hanger (-3) so as to removably and rigidly connect the hanger with the vertically adjustable plate (19). The cover plate is slotted as at (26) to permit the hanger to extend therethrough into the casing. The slot is'wider than the hanger is thick so as to permit thehanger to be inserted in the casing and be moved laterally into position to interlock with the dovetail projection.
The strap hanger extends upwardly through the j amb, not shown, and between the headers of the wall, also not'shown. On
is carried so as to ride upon the track member l). The hanger has an offset portion (28) which is adapted to abut the lower part of the track member (4 to prevent the hanger from moving upwardly.
With the hanger set up as described herein the door will be hung for sliding movement in such a w'ay that the sliding operation will be certain, smooth and noiseless,
1 it being possible to hang the door quickly and easily without changing the door and wall construction appreciably. To adjust the door in the frame whereby it will hang properly the screw (13) is turnedone way for raising the door and another for lowerright the plate (.12) is drawn horizontally toward the screw, and the projections (22) in bearing upon upper sides of the inclined slots (23) cause the plate (12) to move upwardly of the plate (19) andthe door is thus raised to a desired point so as to hang properly. By turning the screw in the opposite direction the door is lowered.
I claim: 1
'1. A door hanger embodying in its con? struction a slidably suspended hanger strap, a door carried casing, a closure plate for the casing having an opening therein through which the strap extends into said casing, a
plate in'the casing with which the strap is connected, guide pins on the plate, said casing having upright slots therein receiving the guide pins and means whlch when moved longitudinally in the casing relative to saidplate effects a vertical adjustment ofthe casing relative to said plate.
-ing it. When the screw is turned to'the 2. A door hanger embodying in its construction a slidably, suspended hanger, strap, a door carried cas1ng,*a closure plate for the casing having an opening therein the casing with which the strap is connected,'-"
guide pins; on the plate, said casing having upright slots therein receivlng the guide pins and means which when moved longitudinally in the casing relative to said plate efiiects a vertical adjustment of the casing relative to said plate, comprising a plate having a screw connected therewith, the
head of said screw being presented exteriorly of the end of the doorthrough the opening in the downwardly presented end of said closure plate.
