PT T OF ED ARD BRUNHQFF, or CINCINNATI, ,orrro-zg CHANGE-TRAY AND ADVERTISING DEVICE.
I Specification of Letters Patent.
a plication filed August 2, 1919. Serial No. 315,005.
T 0 all whom it ma concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD BRUNHOFF, a citizen of the United States, residing at Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Change-Trays and Advertising Devices, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in change tray'and advertising device. One of its objects is to provide an advertising device adapted to be placed in a variety of positions. Another object is to provide an improved combination of a glass, tile, or similar advertising member and a detachable mounting or supporting member. Another object is to provide an advertising device substantially as above adapted to alsobe used as a change tray, and to facilitate the removal of the change therefrom. My invention also comprises certain details of form, combination, and arrangement, all of which will be fully set forth in the description of the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a change tray and advertising device embodying my improvements.
Fig. 2 is an end view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a sectional detail.
Fig. 4 is a diagram illustrating my device supported as an easel upon a table or similar support.
Fig. 5 is a wall.
The accompanying drawings illustrate the preferred embodiment of my invention, in
7 Wise developed u on, the .member 14.
which 14 represents a member of plate-glass, tile, or similar material which carries an advertising design, ornamental design, portrait, or similar design or device. As illustrated for advertising purposes, and to also serve as a change tray when required, a member 14 ofplate-glass is employed, and the advertising matter in the form of a colored print is applied to and secured to the rear face so as to show through on the front, or upper face of member 14, and result in a particularly bright and pleasing effect. The design may be however painted or enameled upon, or etched upon or other- Notches 15 are pre er ably provided across the edges of opposite ends of member 14.

suflicient resiliency so, as to be sprung into and out of engagement with the member 14,
and to normally grasp the member 14 at opposite ends and to hold the member 14 firmly in position against accidental displacement. The middle portion of member 17 preferably constitutes an arch 18 at the rear of member 14 andfbetween the feet 19 of the member 17 and at the same time pro vides a space into which the fingersv of. the left. hand for instance may be introduced while the right hand of the customer is employed'to sweep the change placed on member 14 by a dealer into the palm of the left hand. Opposite ends of member 17 form jaws 20 which yieldingly grasp or embrace I the ends of the member 14 to hold it in place I relative to member 17 The resiliency offlthe metal through the arch 18 tends to draw the jaws 20 toward each other, and thus provides-for yieldingly holding the member 14 in place, and also provides for the release of the member, or its insertion by springing said jaws apart a sufficient distance to enable the member '14 to be inserted or withdrawn.
Each of the jaws 20 is provided with an inwardly directed projection 22,
which enters one of the notches 15 as shown in Fig. 3, and also in Fig. 2, thereby locking 7 the member 14 against escaping edgewise at nished or other surface 29 on which said feet may rest in the'position Fig; 2; The advertising device is also adapted to be positioned as an easel-upon atable or other support 30 substantially as shownin Fig. 4, in which position the sections 26 serve to p j pad the sharp edge of the feet 19 of member 17, and thus prevent-noise or injury to the surface on which the advertising device rests. The members 14 and 17 being separable, provide for interchangeably employing different members 14 with a'single mem- 1. An advertising device comprising anadvertising member having substantially parallel ends, and a supporting member extending beneath said advertising member having feet at opposite ends and jaws at its opposite ends to resiliently and detachably engage opposite ends of said advertising member, said device being adapted to be supported in a variety of display positions. 2. An advertising device comprising an advertising member having substantially parallel ends, and a resilient sheet metal member to support said advertising member extending beneath said advertising member'having'jaws at its opposite ends to resiliently'and detachably engage opposite endsof said advertising member and feet near opposite ends and intermediate of said aws.
3. An advertising device comprising an advertising member, and a sheet metal supporting member of less width than said advertising member extending beneath said advertising member having jaws at its opposite ends to detachably en age opposite ends of said advertising member, feet near opposite ends and intermediate of said jaws, and a resilient arch intermediate of said feet adapted to hold said jaws in yielding engagement with said advertising member.
4:. An advertising device comprisin an advertising member having substantially parallel ends and cross-grooves therein, and
a resilient sheet metal supporting member having feet near opposite ends and 'jaws at opposite ends to resiliently engage opposite ends of said advertising member and the cross-grooves therein to lock said members together. 1
In testimony whereof I have afiiXed my signature.
