PATENT OFFICE.
PARK A. VAN TASSELL, 0F OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
MECHANICAL TOY Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 16, 1919. Serial No. 304,577.
To all whom it may concern:
. Be it known that I, PARK A. VAN TASSELL, a citizen of the United States, resldlng at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mechanical Toys, of which the following is a specification;
My invention is a toy parachute.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing which forms a part of this specification and the appended claims.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure l is a side view of my toy ready to be. shot up in the air.
Fig. 2 is a View of my parachute in the act of descent.
In the drawing, 1 indicates a parachute from which is suspended by cords 2 a wei ht 3 which may be in the form of a man. 11 one side of theweight 3 near the top there of is an upturned hook at on which hooks the parachute by means of an eye 5 connected to the top of the parachute. On the other side of the weight 3 opposite the hook 4 1s a downturned hook 6. To a rod 7 is secured at one end an elastic 8 on the other end of which is secured an eye 9 into which hooks the hook 6.
The operation of my invention is as follows:
The rod 7 and the lower part of the parachute are grasped and pulled apart, stretching the elastic 8. Upon releasing the parachute the elastic contracts and shoots the parachute up into the air, the hook 6 slipping out of the eye 9. When the parachute has reached the height of the ballistic power of the elastic, the weight 3 drops below the parachute, the hook 4 slipping out of the eye 5, and the parachute opens and descends gradually under the influence of the weight.
Having described-my invention, I claim:
1. A toy including a parachute, a weight suspended from the parachute, an upturned hook on said weight, a downturned hook on said weight, an eye on the top of said parachute into which said upturned hook engages, and a projecting device for engaging said downturned hook for projecting the parachute into the atmosphere.
Patented Feb. 22, 1921, V
2. A toy including a parachute, a weight suspended from the parachute, an upturned hook on said weight, a downturned hook on said weight, an eye on the top of said parachute into which said upturned hook engages,'a rod, an elastic connected at one end to said rod, and an eye connected to the other end of said elastic for engaging said downturned hook.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
PARK A. VAN TASSELL.
